TTC After a Loss

Hello!

I just wanted to quickly introduce myself because I will have a presence in this board.  I won't be the most dedicated poster, but I will try to provide meaningful input where I can.  First of all, I'm so sorry that we have all been through very difficult situations to get us on this board, however, it's nice to have this outlet where people with similarities can reach out to one another.

Anyway, we lost our Joshua at 27 weeks in early April due to a rare and sporadic heart condition.  We knew at 18 weeks that he had a less than a 1% chance of surviving, but I wanted to carry him for as long as he wished to stay with us.

My doctor told me that it is recommended to wait a year to TTC, but if we wanted to try sooner she wouldn't say no.  I also had a LEEP procedure two months ago to remove some abormal cells.  I left a message with her asking if she wants to see me before we start trying again.

Is there anyone else on this board who has had a stillborn who would share when they started trying again?

Best wishes to all of you.

  • I am so sorry for your loss of sweet Joshua. I don't have a personal experience with a loss that far along, but one of my friends lost her LO at 21 weeks to Spina Bifida. She waited about a year to try again, but of course everyone is different and you have to do what is best emotionally and medically for you. ((Hugs)). Welcome to the board.

  • I'm sorry for your loss, welcome. I don't have experience with a loss that far along but I have had a LEEP in the past. When I had it my dr told me to wait 1 yr before ttc to allow my cervix time to heal. I'm just curious if your dr telling you a year is related to that or your loss.

    PgAL welcome

  • I am so very sorry for your loss of sweet Joshua.
I hope that you get the guidance and support from your doctor that you deserve. If you don't feel like you are getting the answers you need, or you are questioning the advice your are given, perhaps go get a second opinion.  Many insurance companies will pay for that.  It's what I did, and I ended up switching OBs.  My new doctor is much more proactive about me TTC.
             Sending huge hugs.  Welcome.

  • Thanks everyone! I appreciate the welcome and the input. My doctor said, "they recommend waiting one year to 18 months to deliver again, but I wouldn't tell you no if you wanted to try sooner." My delivery was textbook, too. She didn't say anything after the LEEP about waiting, but I didn't ask either. Of course I missed her call yesterday. :P I'm anxious to start trying again, but want to do what's best for baby and me at the same time.

    Thanks again!

  • I'm so sorry for the loss of your son, Joshua (what a great name btw).  I haven't had a still birth, but one of my bump friends who became an IRL friend (mch77) lost her son around 23/24 weeks.  She had a D&E and was trying again really soon (maybe a cycle or 2).  Welcome to the board.
  • So So So sorry to hear about your loss. I don't have any advice, but I do have much sympathy. Especially for balancing wanting to try again soon and wanting to do the best possible thing for your future pregnancy. Thoughts are with you as you practice discernment! Xo
