Heating Pad

I've had some terrible back pain the last few days so I just bought an electronic heating pad hoping it would give me some relief. However, after getting it home I was thinking about how hot tubs are off limits while pregant and wondering if the heating pad might be too hot of a temperature for LO. Am I being overly cautious or should I be worried about the temperature?

Re: Heating Pad

  • I was nervous too, so I asked my doctor when I had really bad round ligament pain. She actually suggested it, but noted not to make it too hot and not to keep it on too long.

  • Just don't put it in your belly.
  • I'm laying on one right now.

  • My OB gave me the go ahead to use a heating pad. I don't turn the heat up much at all.

  • I use a hot water bottle on my back.  It never occurred to me that it might be bad.  It dosn't start off all that hot (just under boiling water), and begins cooling down immediately, so it's not even possible to leave it on for too long.

  • Thanks everyone!
  • It's more of an issue earlier on in pregnancy to use a heat pad.  As PPs said, as long as it's not on your belly, you don't keep it on all night, and it's not at the highest heat setting, you'll be fine at this point.
