We are buying each boy a toy box. I'll throw in a few little toys to go in it but they each need one and I found a local builder who does good quality work for a decent price so it will be a good investment.
  • Next stage carseat and stroller. Toys.
  • Books! I have a wish list on Amazon of educational toys and books I want to get her.
  • Mostly clothes, books, cloth diapers. We still have a lot of toys from DD1 although any with multiple parts are missing some, so I'll likely be replacing things like the stacking rings and the shaped blocks that fit into holes of a box. I saw a few other toys I'd like for her but they're more appropriate age-wise to wait for her birthday. Oh, and her first Bronners ornament, of course.
YES!! I've already checked that one off my list...

  • if anyone asks what we want I'm saying diapers and wipes, or target or starbucks GCs lol

He'll get a first ornament. I'll probably get him an outfit and book- nothing crazy.

Probably a couple toys. Honestly, I can't imagine we will put that much thought into gifts for her this year. She will be too little to understand Christmas, so a few things to play with and some wrapping paper to tear up will make her day, I'd imagine.

I'll definitely get her an ornament for the tree, though. We always got to pick one out every year as kids and it was one of my favorite traditions. I have many of them on my own tree now and I always enjoy unpacking them and seeing them up each Christmas.
  • We have a few toys for him already.  Probably some diapers.  Grandparents will go nuts.

  • We're going to do a set of mini-skis (if we can find them), a PBK mini-chair, and then clothes. For his birth, my dad/step-mom signed him up for a book of the month club (more like 5 books) so we have plenty of books now. I'm going to specifically ask they don't buy stuffed animals either.

I'm more excited about stuff for his first birthday.

All if this. She doesn't even have a clue what will be going on. But I'm sure she will enjoy wrapping paper so I may get a couple little toys in several packages so she can enjoy opening them and ripping the paper.
  • We will probably do a big toy that both kids will like from Santa -- like a Lego or train table. DS will still be too little to enjoy it at Christmas, but it'll be something he can grow into and DD will love it now. Most of DD's baby toys are still in great condition, so he doesn't need much -- some new clothes for Spring, some non-gnawed-on board books, etc.

  • Radio flyer wagon with the flip seats that face each other and shade attachment . Perfect for hauling the kids to parades , waterparks, weekend outings and all of their junk/toys/bags.
  • I'm thinking about some books and maybe one or two toys. I've also asked the grandparents not to go nuts. Even when she is older I don't want Christmas to get out of hand with gifts. It's not necessary and takes away from the meaning.

I need to talk to DH,but I want to do the "Something to wear, something to read, something you want, something you need," thing.  Plus a stocking from Santa with small things.  I'm sure the grandparents will go overboard anyway.
Does this mean you personally get LO 4 gifts at christmas??

Maybe its a cultural thing, but we will only be buying her one thing, probably a book, or set of kids books (maybe that counts as more than one thing?). She will get plenty from everyone else and I don't believe in going overboard at Christmas!

Also she wont get Santa this year, shes only 8 months old in December. She will next year. but only a small stocking that will contain fruit, a big toy and some smaller trinket stuff. Oh and a big lollipop! think lollipop guild big!

OMG was going to put in a GIF of the lollipop guild, they do not actually hold a lollipop! its a bunch of flowers!! Childhood = ruined!

Edit: ok relooked, yes its a lollipop but disguised when over his shoulder. whew!

Basically, yeah.  It's sad that this is what "cutting back the crazy" at Christmas looks like.

My neighbors, when they went to grandparents for christmas last year with their 20 month old, had to - no joke - rent a UHAUL truck to get all the presents home.
    :(

    They were not pleased.

    This!

some small toys, Disney movie, an outfit or two.  Not much since she has all of DD1's handme downs and will lose interest in opening gifts fairly quickly.  BUT I do want her to have some presents to open, plus she is fun to buy for :)

  • I ordered each of my girls a shutterfly photobook with pics of their birth and first few months. I expect grandparents to go overboard, too so maybe not much else. I'd like them to get a wagon and a double pool floatie tube so ill have them "ask" for those.

  • i have no clue for T.  i'm sure she'll receive some books, toys and clothes from the grandparents.  we might ask someone to get her a stool from damhorst toys.  kiddo has one with his name on it, and we definitely want to get one for T as well.  this is what they look like:

    image

we will likely ask my inlaws to add to kiddo's big boy (i.e. small size) lego collection, as that's a pretty safe bet for not messing it up :)  they sometime are.... creative...  with their gifts, so we like to give them a very specific and easily found goal each year.

  • We follow the rule of the 3 wise men. You only get 3 toys and 3 toys get donated. You may think this is mean, but I have an 800sqft house, it can be no other way. But really I can't imagine getting her anything, since we have plenty of toys and DD1s first x-mas was an epic flop. Since DD2 will only be a month older than DD1 was her first x-mas I am expecting a similar result.
  • I love the idea of a radio flyer wagon... might have to put that in the list for the grandparents, whom I know will go nuts. From us? The 4 something's and a little stocking will do the trick!
  • I haven't even thought about it yet. We always go overboard on the girls. Hoping to keep it more simple this year, although I say that every year. We have always done the "something you wear, something you read, something you want and something you need" with the girls (plus some). So, we'll probably keep it to that for the presents from us. According to our tradition Santa brings just one present and it a big one. Last year Santa brought the girls' brand new bikes.

  • DH and I will probably stick to our plan of three gifts. We know grandparents will go overboard and we would like to not do that. My sister goes way overboard with her girls and not only are they overwhelmed but they get hung up on the material things that come with the holidays and totally miss the true meaning.

The greatest gift that I hope to pass onto DS is the gift of not longing for material things. I wasn't always this way and in my 20s I was very materialistic but now to not long for things is truly freeing. I cherish experiences and time with those that I love.
