Playing music for baby

On a long car trip a few weeks ago I noticed the baby was moving a lot when a particular song/artist came on. Since then we have been putting music on for the baby for a few minutes before we go to bed when he is already moving a bit. When we play music he moves a little more, but there is one artist/album in particular (the same one from the car) that makes him move like crazy!!! Anyone else experience this? At first I thought "wow the baby likes this song!" but now I wonder if it's a "I don't like this turn it off!!" Haha. My DH thought maybe it was the sound frequency or something.

Re: Playing music for baby

  • Lol, this is how my oldest got "His" bedtime song! I love the Beatles, and his song is "I will" because while I was pregnant I was playing one of Tim Curry's albums and he does a weird reggae version of "I will" and my son went CRAZY! His reaction was always to wiggle like crazy every time that song was played :)

  • Question.... When you play music do you put headphones on your belly or just play it and you notice a reaction?
  • With my first, I always noticed a difference in movement depending on whether the song was slow or upbeat. He danced like crazy to the upbeat songs and the slower ones, Coldplay in particular, calmed him down. This is still true. If I play Coldplay in the car he goes right to sleep. Celtic music too. I also sang to him a lot and that's how I have always gotten him to calm down and go to sleep.

This one hasn't shown a preference yet.

  • This thread is so sweet. I can't wait to find out what type of music baby likes. I haven't been able to notice baby moving to any particular sounds or music, but mostly at this point I can only feel him when I'm falling asleep and am lying on my side because I have an anterior placenta and don't feel much movement unless I'm on my side.
  • The first time I really REALLY felt LO kick without a doubt was when I was playing a song on youtube for DH on my ipad. I had the ipad sitting on a pillow on my lap and had my hand resting on my belly. I felt the movement and it freaked me out so much bc it was so unexpected. I started crying lol.
