TTC after 35

Finally doing an Intro

Hello all!

I've joined another group and have been checking this group out too since I  also fit into the 35+ category. I apologize in advance for not knowing all the abbreviations, I'm trying to figure them out as I go.

I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to find the love of my life, unfortunately we didn't find each other till 2 days before my 39th birthday. I had decided a few years earlier that if I was single at 40 I was going to have a child on my own. Being in a new relationship when my 40th birthday came along didn't fit with my original plan. HAHA! But when he told me on Thanksgiving that he was ready to have a baby with me I was elated. I have done my research and taken everyone's advice; tracking temperature and ovulation, Robitussin/Mucinex, Acupuncture, Ovulation kits, etc. and here we are 7 months later and nothing. Every month we are hopeful and every month has ended in tears.

I made the big mistake in the beginning, because I was so excited that we were ready to try, of telling all my close friends about our plans... now I keep getting the question " Are you pregnant yet?" Which doesn't help.

I have been looking into seeing an RE thanks to the advice of the ladies in the other group. I don't even know where to start to find one. I don't know anyone who has gone down that route. If there are any ladies in Los Angeles that have any reccomendations I would welcome them with open arms.

I have read some posts in this group and see all the support you ladies give each other and am hoping to tap into that a little. He is SO supportive but I feel like i need some from others going through the same thing. I am so sorry for the long winded introduction and am very impressed if you are still reading this.

Thank you in advance for you help and support.

  • I personally love long intros. I feel it gives a little more info and we get to know you a little better.
    With that said, welcome.
If you don't have any friends who could recommend a good RE them ask your gyno. They should know a few. I would think LA would have a bunch to choose from.

  • Welcome!  Everyone here is awesome and so responsive and kind.  :)  I came barreling in here the other day and instantly received responses to questions I'd been holding onto for a while.  So - you're in good hands.  I'm so interested in what you could be talking about with the Robitussin/Mucinex comment... Was that a joke or real advice?  And if it's real, do tell!  I have not heard about this... :)

@mcodea88, the idea is that it thins the cervical mucus and makes it friendlier to sperm. :)

  • Oh my @davie813 I have not heard that before but may give it a whirl... I find my CM to be a mystery and often use pre-seed as a back-up, but could try this instead.  do you have to take it every day?  how often?  Thanks and now I'm sorry @Teenie16 for the sidestep on your post.  :)  sticky beans and baby dust to you all!

  • @mcodea88‌ no worries about "side stepping" I don't get a chance to check in on here as much as I'd like when I'm at work. I've heard from different people about Mucinex and Robitussin separately. Either/or not both. To take it for 2 to 3 days before ovulation. So your body doesn't get used to it. As @Davie813‌ said It's supposed to thin out your CM to make it "less hostile" to his swimmers. One woman SWEARS that she got pregnant from robitussin.... don't know how true that is. But hey I figured it was worth a shot.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes and good wishes

  • Welcome! I'm pretty new here, too. :)
  • @Teenie16 and @mcodea88

The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility has some good advice on using Mucinex or Robitussin for good CM. Evidently, there are specific kinds of these meds that are bad for CM (like maybe the night versions [I don't remember]), so you have to use the recommended versions.

  • Hi Teenie!

Welcome and thank you for sharing your story.  I think TTC wise and agewise we are very similar!  I'm 39 and turning 40 next month and TTC #1.  I can relate to the excitement of TTC #1 then only to have it take longer then hoping.  Out of the excitement I made the mistake of telling a few people as well and have gotten the dreaded follow up questions.

I don't talk about it at all now not even with my poor mom who likes to know everything!  LOL!  Love her! That's why I have turned here to these wonderful ladies!

Best wishes and tons of baby dust to you!

  • @Michi974‌ yes it sounds like we are travelling down the same path at the same time. I will be 41 in October. But our parents don't know that we are trying. Since we aren't married yet and my parents are very traditional in their thinking. I know they will be supportive when it happens but I don't think they would agree with what we're doing. Which is also a little tough because I am SO CLOSE to my mom.

I think my favorite question is "how is the baby making going?" How do you answer that? Haha!
Best wishes, good luck and baby dust to you too!

Love that question!  It's like..."Um yeah it's going"  that's usually my response and I cringe when I hear that (possibly with a not so happy facial expression).  Yikes I hope my expressions are not so bad.  I know it's my fault since I should have never mentioned it to anyone.  But it's hard to keep that excitement of TTC #1 inside.

Plus due to a medical condition my mom, dad and Fiancé were all at the doc's with us as we were asking if we were okay to TTC so the cat was out of the bag.  I couldn't keep it from my parents even if I tried.

Problem now is I get tons of suggestions, advice and questions especially from my mom who wants a grandchild badly! Very badly LOL!

Oh well...we live and we learn!  If we are lucky enough to be blessed with our own child and we are able to TTC for a second time I will not tell a soul!
