Getting pregnant after a LEEP

I'm having a LEEP done in a few weeks to remove abnormal cells from my cervix. My husband and I planned on TTC in a few short months but now I'm so nervous about complications such as miscarriage or pre-term labor down the road.. Anyone who has had this procedure done with some feedback would be helpful!

    Talk to your doctor.

I know some women who had LEEPs and were told getting pregnant right away was fine.  I had a LEEP in 2004 that resulted in a large removal of cells, six weeks of no sex, and was done in operating room.

It's all very dependent on your personal situation.
This. I had a LEEP in 2003ish and was told that it wouldn't affect anything, but then I had a short cervix and preterm labor and then a very bizarre labor due to cervical scarring (stuck at 6-7cm dilated for three weeks). My RE and MFM both said it was likely from a combo of the LEEP and a D&C.

That said, one LEEP isn't likely to cause any issues. It's repeated LEEP procedures that tend to raise concern.

  • I had a LEEP in 2008 and like Joy it was done in an operating room with 6 weeks no sex/tampons.  The doctor did say pre-term labor could be a concern but not did not mention miscarriage.  I have had a biopsy and colposcopy almost every year since I was 18.  (I have had literally had like paps come back normal.)

When I was pregnant with DD (2010) they did an extra ultrasound to measure cervical length because of the LEEP and everything looked fine.  She was born at 40 weeks exactly and DS at 40w2d.  I had no ill effects.  Good luck!
  • I had one done last year and got pregnant shortly after, I spent weeks worrying and reading every forum about being pregnant after a LEEP. Eight weeks ago I gave birth to a healthy sweet baby girl without any complications, I went to full term (39 weeks 4 days) and had a vaginal birth, no issues dilating or with scarring tissue. I know every experience might be different, just make sure your doctor knows you are TTC.
