IUD

Does anyone here have one? I got the mirena put in last week and I had an appointment today to check the strings to make sure it's in place, and my ob couldn't find them. So now I have an ultrasound scheduled for the 28th to find it. If it's not in the right place, they have to go in with a scope to remove it. Awesome. Has this happened to anyone else here?

Re: IUD

  • That happened to me during an annual visit a few yeas ago. The ultrasound showed it was perfectly in place. I never had issues when I'd check the string placement either before or after, it was just a fluke and my OB said likely due to where I was in my cycle that day.

  • Don't mean to hijack your thread but I'm getting the paraguard put in on thurs and I am scared shitless. Painful or totally tolerable? Tell me ladies!!! I'm scurred! Lol.
  • I'm glad there is some people with good news on this subject. I'll be the jerk with the bad, for the darker side, sorry. I had this happen and my iud shifted. I ended up getting pregnant and having a miscarriage. And having my iud fall out. However no doctor decided to check with an ultrasound. It took over a year for all of this to happen. But it is possible. But the chance are like 1 in 1000 I believe so I'm not saying it'll happen to you, but be mindful. It's not impossible.
  • When I had mine put in, it hurt so bad. But maybe it was because it didn't go in the right place? And then it caused me to start my period, so I had pain from that for a few days.

So I think I'm gonna call my OB office tomorrow to see if they can just take it out. I'm dizzy, I have bad cramps, and my back is killing me. We had sex the other day and I think it got dislodged even more. So yeah.
  • @cspencer85‌ just because it was really painful to insert doesn't mean it was in the wrong place. People just react differently to it- and if you've not had a vaginal delivery it could be very painful to insert. Either way, get in touch with them regarding your other symptoms but remember they might not be due to the IUD as many women's periods are different postpartum compared to prebaby.

  • Well we also think it's in the wrong place since my OB couldn't find the strings when I had my appointment to check it.
  • My OB recommended I get an IUD for birth control and I was thinking about scheduling an appt.  Im worried it will affect my milk supply… I don't really have any reason to fear this I just do bc right now I am barely producing enough and still supplementing with formula here and there.  Worried that any hormonal changes could affect my output.
Does anyone have an insight on the subject?

  • My doctor said he won't give me one until I get a period. Which I probably won't get until I am done nursing or supplementing more. So I guess I'm out of luck for now. I have heard great things about it and horrible stories too.
  • I have the paraguard IUD (no hormones) and got it placed 7wks pp. My dr gave me a prescription for cervadil which I put in the morning of the procedure. It was a breeze- I was expecting all these cramps and I didn't feel a thing! But I've had 3 kids....
  • @izzetoot I have not had a drop in supply with Mirena and I have "just enough" milk.

I am not sure I love my Mirena, to be honest. I haven't had sex with it yet because these kids don't go to bed at a reasonable time. Well, mainly Peaches. But anyway, I have never had a vaginal birth and mine hurt really bad going in but the pain was gone by the time I drove away from the office. No cramping afterwards, really. But I took an ibuprofen before they put it in.

  • Got my Mirena placed today. Cervical checks hurt so much worse. I started my period today, which supposedly helps (not sure why). I has some period like cramps but nothing major. Hoping to love it!
  • I had paraguard and was reasonably happy with it. Insertion was nbd for me. The extra period bleeding sucked but was worth no hormones and it seemed to lessen over time. Not sure what to do next.

  • @izzetoot - I got Mirena 6 weeks pp and it has not affected my milk supply at all. Good luck!

  • Well, I had an ultrasound yesterday and it showed that it's behind my uterus and it pierced it. So I'm having surgery this morning to remove it. Of course this would happen to me. I hope I'm not infertile now
  • Turns out the IUD went in the cul de sac and it did pierce my uterus but they said it closes up, just like a piercing would.

I got the paragaurd on the 21st; the actual insertion not bad.

However.... My cervix was super uncooperative( very high up) so when my OB used the sound to measure; that hurt; more because she had to keep manipulating my cervix to get the correct measurement

I bled lightly for a few days after and other then that I've had no side effects

@cspencer85‌ glad to hear it will close on its own; best of luck!
