What activities while you are at work?

Hello ladies! I am just trying to think of some activities my two year old twins can so besides coloring, puzzles and books. I want to have the babysitter try to block out some time for certain things. Do you have your babysitter do anything special? Like craft time? If so, what kinds of crafts? Thanks!

Re: What activities while you are at work?

  • Are you on Pinterest? You can find a gazillion things there. How about bubbles, sprinkler, walk around the neighborhood. My daughters like to squirt colored vinager into baking soda with eye droppers (moderate mess potential).

  • There is an old school book I think is great for that age called the preschoolers busy book it is on amazon...
  • Reading books, playing outside, sensory experiences (water, sand, playdough, finger painting, etc), creative arts (drawing, painting, dancing, musical instruments), science (nature walks), puzzles, and more. You could have her follow a board of yours on Pinterest, to give her some ideas. Or you could put out some materials each day for her to use. However, its more about the process then the product, so keep that in mind.

  • I would stock a cabinet with crafty stuff and tell her you would like your child to have access to it 3-4 times a week or something. Then specify other things like a 30 minute walk, several days at the playground, time in the yard, independent play indoors with fine motor activities and two story times each day. Honestly I'd ask her what she envisions a schedule looking like and then go from there.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

Here are two sites that have some great ideas.

I have a one year old (on Friday) so we haven't done much. But I know my niece loves sorting- buttons, pom poms into muffin trays. She can do it for hours.
  • My nanny just started a couple of weeks ago, but she comes up with ideas all the time. They go to parks and meet up with other kids, go to story time, take walks, cook, read books, and play with baby dolls. After DS gets home from school, they usually make a snack and draw or do a craft.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • I'd let your babysitter come up with stuff. You can print some stuff out to give her an idea of what you're looking for, but let her get creative so she's engaged in the projects. When it comes to supplies, you can either give a $20/week budget (or something), or she could give you a "schedule" of what she wants to do and a list of what she needs in advance, so you can have it ready.
