I made a solo trip to baby's r us last week and I was just looking at random things when this couple with 2 kids walked over to me and said "first kid?" I smiled and was like yes! I'm so excited and want to buy everything. I then preceded to compliment their children (who were acting well behaved I might add) and the mom goes "oh they look precious but just you wait!!" The dad seemed to be In a rush and they left after she said that.
I got really emotional for a second and it totally took the wind out of my FTM baby browsing sails. I went to the next aisle and there was an older woman there shopping around and she immediately stops me and says "I had eight, because I wanted eight." Being a mom is the most fun you can have, if you keep your excited attitude, you'll enjoy it, because you're getting a gift and responsibility not many understand.
I got in my car and cried of course, came home and ate some pizza, and was just grateful for the rest of the night.
This is what I try to do for my pregnant friends. It is almost indescribable how amazing it is to have a child, and I know even more amazing moments are ahead of us. Our toddler has brought so much joy, laughter, love, chaos, and pride to our lives. There are tough moments, for sure, but when he climbs up into my lap, gives me a big hug with his little arms, and says "awwwwww," it is just completely amazing. Just wait, first time moms. You will love being a mom.
It reminds me of DDs first birthday. After she was clean, full, and tucked into bed I was left to sit and nearly cry. Thinking how quick these 'seasoned parents' were to tell me bout all the headaches I was in for but completely forgot how heartbreaking and completely fulfilling it was to watch her grow, learn, fall, and laugh. How it brings you right to your knees fighting to hold on to these little yet monumental moments for just a little bit longer. I've never been the type to fall in love all at once but I swear kids are magic.
Re: In honor of all the just waits, here's another.
(Happy tears)
