Wtf just happened?

Okay I have no idea what happened this evening, but I got some intense pressure in my ribs and upper back pain and couldn't find a comfortable way to sit, stand, or lay down. Then I threw up what felt like every thing I are today which relieved the rib pressure but I still had bad back pain. After awhile (a ****ing hour. It lasted a ****ing hour and I was crying), I was sweaty and sticky and everything eased up and now just mild, barely noticeable lower back ache.
wtf was that?
I'm sure labor will be a thousand times worse, but this was not pleasant. I was getting worried that something was seriously wrong and was seconds away from calling DH to come take me to the ER. I tried googling symptoms (I know, not always good) and nothing really came up. I'm a FTM and I don't have parents that I can ask about these things so I really value anything you ladies are able to tell me.
Just wondering what the heck that was.
Also, I wasn't sure where to post this so if I need to move it I can.

  • Similar thing happend to me last week. It felt like I spiked a fever, massive cramps where I couldn't walk, and I just wanted to cry. For me it turns out that it was something I ate that my body didn't agree with. As soon as I got it all out, all symptoms were gone. - I have felt fine since.

Oh and the rib cage pressure, my doctor said that could be heart burn and to take some tums and it should go away - as I have had that pressure since I was 8 weeks along (now 12). Tums does help.

Thank you so much! I took my temp during because I felt so much like a fever but it was 98.3F.
Any clue on what the back deal was? It was hard to breathe, but the back pain stayed mostly upper and mid back, not lower back.
ETA: I will be 14w tomorrow.
  • If you have a nursing line in your area I would call them, just to be safe. You should be able to find it with google. Look for "health line" or "non emergency health line".

Sorry I can't be more help; I hope you feel better soon!

With my first I would get horrible heartburn in my back. Sounds similar. I take tums of if it's really bad Zantac and helps lots.

  • It sounds like horrendous heartburn and gas. I've had gas pains so bad they actually went up into my boobs and shoulder blades!! I know it can be really scary if you don't know what's happening though. As far as comparing to labor...totally different IMO. You aren't terrified in labor because you know exactly what's going on. You're so big and uncomfortable, you're more like "yeah bring it on! Get this baby outta me!"

This ^ It happened to me the night before last but I recognized it as gas pain from my first pregnancy. I called my OB as soon they opened and asked for recommendations as what to take. My OB reviewed my file and made specific suggestions for me. One of the suggestions was tums and it has helped. You may want to call your OB to make them aware of it and get recommendations for you or you can wait until your next appointment and make your OB aware that this had been a severe symptom for you.

  • Thank you so much! I'm sure not knowing what was going on freaked me out so much worse than I needed to be. I'm feeling fine this morning, just tired and a little heartburn. Tums to the rescue.
  • Intense pressure and pain under your right ribs can be a gallbladder attack which is often relieved by throwing up. I had to have my gallbladder removed with my first and it's not uncommon. Attacks come when you eat high fat and greasy foods or over eat.
  • I had the pain behind my ribs a few weeks ago, which just turned out to be gas pains. Over time I could feel them change position as they worked their way through my digestive tract (gross, I know), and eventually went away.
  • Could have been a gall bladder attack.

I agree with gallbladder. I had those symptoms for two years before they finally, correctly diagnosed me. Did you eat fatty/greasy food before? That is when mine would be at its worst.
  • Yeah sounds like something you ate was no bueno. Your body is a lot more perceptive to what you put into it. May be the gallbladderor pancreatitis depending on where your pain was.........just a guess not a diagnosis. Feel better.
  • The only thing that works for my heart burn/sour stomach..is Milk.. Ty it..it may work for you.takes it away in a matter of minutes..
  • sounds like bad heartburn and gas, chew tums when tums stop working then you move on to a liquid heartburn medicine, when the liquid stops working then you move on to the pills ths is what my doc wrote down for me cause I asked for a prescription he said no need most of the heartburn med that was prescription before can now be bought over the counter
