So remind me...is it ok to start working out in the middle of pregnancy? Is it mostly the heart rate you have to watch?? I've done ZERO exercise since being pregnant. And who knows when the last time I worked out was pre-pregnancy. I'm too busy. I work full time and chase a toddler day and night.
But I need to work out.
So I saw people talk about Pure Barre here a couple months ago. I did the free class on Thursday. HOLY HELL!!! I'm freaking sore guys!!! And I was shaking and good lord. Has anyone done this class that can tell me if it's smart to start during pregnancy? My heart rate was fine but my muscles are killing me. They have me a sheet of modifications but I haven't looked at them yet. The only thing I couldn't do was some stomach work so I just sat there lol.
Anyone else getting a late start to working out? I know it'll make labor easier and it's best for me and baby. It just sucks

I'm not worried about my heart rate at all. I can control that pretty well, I used to run a lot and am good at regulating my breathing and watching heart rate. My biggest concern, which I didn't even think about until I was in the class, was the abdominal work. Is it that it's going to hurt the baby or the placenta or what? I understand the separating muscles thing later on...kinda.
@ashtonkitty1 when you say "core didn't make me feel good" do you mean mentally you were freaked out by it or it actually hurt you? I'm pretty sore in my ribs and lower abdomen but I guess I expected that. It just creeps me out bc I don't know lol.
Edit to add:
@KimberlyC1984 did she tell you why you couldn't do core?
@Ainslie325 are inversions like doing downward dog in yoga?

I've always been told that if you didn't exercise prior to pregnancy, you should still to walking just to be safe. Honestly, that can give you a great workout, especially on an incline.
Also, I think it's awesome that you want to be more active! What I've been told is similar to PP:
1. Generally do activities you did before pregnancy since your body is already conditioned for them. If starting something new check with your dr and take it slowly.
2. Listen to your body. Really. You will likely only want to do about 70% of what you *could* do.
3. Avoid direct ab work (no crunches, plank, etc.), but indirect core strengthening of obliques etc is ok (leg lifts, etc). As far as I know, and I'm no expert, this is because you can risk tearing the connective tissue between your abs (a condition called diastasis recti), and you also don't want to squish baby up too much.
I wasn't terribly active before pregnancy, so I'm sticking with walking, hiking, and prenatal classes/DVDs (I really like the 10 minute solution prenatal Pilates if you're looking for recs). I'm also a loss mom so I'm pretty cautious.
Good luck! Let us know what you ind out from your doc.
Thank you too for the suggestions on other work outs. @megbmeg thank you also for the ab workout answer. I'm ok with modifying my workouts or changing it altogether but I'm one of hose people that always has to know "why" lol. I don't do well with "the dr said it's not good" I always want the details, what are the risks, is it outdated, what are the odds, etc. I'm like that with everything though. I can follow someone's instructions to the letter if I know "why" I'm doing it (let me tell you how much that drove my mother crazy
@Ainslie325 i totally agree with you on the heart rate thing. I guess I meant to day I do a pretty good job of judging my energy output, not just my heart rate. When I do run and when I train for 10k's I run alone so once in a while I'll start singing or talking to myself to see if I am still doing ok. Since I don't have someone else to talk to to test it.
And I also agree with not everyone fitting in the same box. For some reason I have a slightly higher LDL than is considered "normal". I used to work at a hospital and they'd do the lipid and glucose panel for us and the first like 3 times the dr kept telling me "you must lower your cholesterol intake". I had the hardest time convincing him that I didn't consume a lot anyway. Finally after more test and trial "diets" he realized I just don't fit in their little 4 dots. I'm perfectly healthy and my HDL is high so that's good. Anyway. Lol
I might do some research into the ab thing. I'm ok with going to the class and just doing the best I can. If I can't keep up or I skip the direct ab stuff I don't mind. I'm partly so curious about it bc I LOVED the class, it's so my style ... And I paid $35 for 2 weeks unlimited classes lol
