Made my first large Christmas purchase

So Ladies,
I started my Christmas shopping tonight. I filled up a cart online and boom did it. I don't get maternity leave paid. I have a little over a month paid with my sick/vacation/personal time.

So I am planning on knocking it out early. Have any of y'all started shopping or thought about it??

  • I already have my list & started with a few small purchases. My problem is...I'm never "done" until Christmas because I keep seeing stuff to buy!
  • I have our list 75% finished. I will begin shopping once I know that we are set for baby.

I also have DD's bday shopping to do (Dec. 1).

  • I really shouldn't procrastinate but I have so much baby stuff to buy the next few months. It would be easier for me to get the baby stuff out of the way then buy Xmas gifts in December. Plus... FI's pet peeve; if I buy kids gift in advance intending to hold till Xmas, I always give into temptation and just give them the gifts early then buy more for Xmas so they actually have something to open! :-??

It's easier on my budget if I just wait last minute to buy the gifts. Haha.
  • I feel like every Christmas we go WAY overboard and end up spending SO much money.  I'm a huge procrastinator too and feel like I'm just buying people things to....well....just buy them things!  So this year I started early and have some of it done.  I've already started a list and have bought some things.  Amazon has been amazing.  People think I'm crazy when I tell them I've started but the last thing I want to be doing after giving birth is walking around a mall trying to find things.  Ugh.  No thank you.  I will have it done by then.
  • I have been wanting to do exactly this and get my shopping out of the way this year, but the thing that has been holding me back is thinking that if I buy it already and the person needs to exchange or return, they may not be able to because of the time limit on some return policies.

So we have been toying with the idea of giving everyone money or a gift card this Christmas, which I absolutely hate that idea but its probably going to be the least stress and easiest this year.
  • I feel like I'm always Christmas shopping! I coupon, so anytime I see a deal I put it aside. That way it's not a giant expense all at once.

  • missnacholover   Yes.  Gift bags with tissue stuffed in.  Then we can gather the bags, and use them again next year.  (We can be lazy AND cheap!  Great combo at Christmas!)

  • While I love the thought of being home with my new baby during the holidays, I am dreading the thought of getting ready for Christmas WHILE learning how to care for a newborn. I feel like my measly 6 week maternity leave should be dedicated to baby, and only baby. However, I LOVE Christmas, and I would be sad if I didn't have lights, a tree, cookies, and gifts wrapped. It's gonna be a rough 6 weeks.

  • I am absolutely adament about taking the full 12 weeks and therefore we are saving big time to cover bills during the 6 weeks that is unpaid, I have no idea what we will do for christmas and we haven't really talked about:(
