Interview outfit help

I have an interview next week and I haven't needed interview clothes since before DD was born. I have zero clue what to wear, what kind of shoes to wear, etc. I'm going in for a type of office job so I'd like to look professional and put together if at all possible ;) Any sort of outfit help would be amazing. Bonus points for me being able to buy it in town here and pictures to help me visualize.

Re: Interview outfit help

  • I don't think that you can go wrong with nice black slacks or skirt paired with a white blouse and a black jacket. Is the office conservative? If so, you will want to dress the part. Or is the office a little more trendy? In that case, you have a lot of outfit options that will show your personality while still allowing you to look professional and pulled together. https://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=interview outfit&rs=ac&len=9

  • Do you have a nordstrom's nearby? They offer a free stylist who can put something together to suit your needs and budget. This is what I did and gave recommended to friends who have also loved it.
  • I would go with a suit, or a dark dress with a blazer. Close toed pumps are easy and classic-you will get a lot of use out of them if you dont have them and need to invest.

I think a classic suit is the safest option.  A closed-toe pump or wedge is a great choice for shoes. Just make sure they are comfortable! I'm not a huge fan of collared shirts under suits, I think it can look a little dated.  I think a pretty shell or blouse can soften it a bit.

    Good luck!
  • I usually find my suits at the Limited...not sure what your budget it like. I have found a few at JC Penny's or Macy's back when I was in college. Though I do love my suits from the limited. They are little more expensive but they fit really well and wear well.

I would definitely go with a basic black suit. Depending on if it is a more conservative or creative environment then I will change up the shirt I wear under it and the jewelry that I am wearing. Closed toed black or nude heels. Make sure that your nails are filed neatly or the polish isn't chipped. And make sure your hair is out of your face.

    Good luck!

  • I have NY&CO "7th Avenue" slacks and matching comfy lightweight blazer that I wear with a blouse. Super simple, classic lines that don't need drycleaning. You can catch them on sale a few times a year too.

  • A suit. Pants or skirt. I like wearing a dress with a blazer. I like shopping at The Loft. They have a good selection for petites.

I'd love to go to one, but we don't have one nearby.

  • Thanks for all the replies everyone. Hopefully I can find something on Monday when I go shopping. At least now I have a game plan of where to go ;)

  • Another vote for a black, gray, or navy suit with a shell. I have gotten a ton at Macy's. Fwiw, I always wear skirt suits to interviews. Prob bc I worked for a federal judge who thought pants on women were tacky in very professional situations. Even though I disagree and think he was a very old fashioned old white guy, I'm always afraid I'll be interviewing with his clone. So I play it safe!
