Blood lead level

My 4 year old had his well child check yesterday, and his screening test for blood lead level was initially high. If it was correct it was over a 10 (average is between 3-7.) the doctor said it could be a false positive and she sent blood to the labs. Has anyone ever been through this before? What was the outcome? I am not coping well and very worried.

Re: Blood lead level

  • He's never had a test before. His doctor starts testing standardly at 4 years. Everywhere he goes is a low risk home. I am pregnant and my lead levels have been tested at the beginning of the pregnancy and they are fine. My house was built in 1992 so that's not really an option either. Thank you for your input. It's going to be a long couple of days waiting for the results.

  • Thanks for your feedback! It's good to know it isn't uncommon. I will go down to the hardware store in the meantime. My nerves are already just about shot.
  • Thanks again so much!!! I just got a call from the lab and they said that his blood was transported incorrectly and that he needs to be taken into the lab to get another draw! Ugh, what a mess!!!
  • Update!
My son's blood test results came back yesterday. His lead levels are completely normal. I feel like if the finger poke tests come back false
Positive so often, they should forego them!
