Sleep deprived

Well it looks like sleep regression has hit. For the last two and half hours I have tried everything short of sleeping pills (joking) to get this kid back to sleep. ( currently 6:40am here) She been playing, crying, laughing, wiggling her way up the crib bed and just slammed her head into the top of the bed. She's fed off of both breasts TWICE. And fell asleep all 4 times only to snap awake as soon as I put her down. Me I've only had about 3 hours of sleep and I'm starting to get angry frustrated.

Help me calm myself in hopes I can go back to bed soon.

  • Sometimes we stare at each other and I sing 1970s songs... She thinks it's great. You should learn some songs in Finnish. It's a "high pitched" langauge and babies find that soothing. Not sure about Swedish however.

  • i know its so hard how frustrating it is when they were sleeping through the night, my little guy has been like this what is seems forever. its been 2 weeks of this and i am exhausted.

when i do get angry and put him down for a second and walk away i dont wanna do anything i will regret, i count to 10 and that helps alot then when i come back he is usually smiling and that makes it all better.... you are not alone and eventually this stage will pass but it is exhausting in the meantime.
     Hang in there!!!

  • Ugh! Same boat! Up every hour on the hour and is now currently squealing happily next to me. Wtf, kid? I think I had maybe three hours of sleep too--piecemeal of course.

  • Yeah we had a few crappy weeks and then a couple of better nights. I thought we were done. I thought wrong.
  • We have never had a problem until last night...wtf i hope its a fluke. I felt like i wrote this post its so close to exactly what we are experiencing. No advice but just letting you know your not the only one. It must be some baby conspiracy they all got together like lil terrorists and planned to make last night hell.,, kidding of course
  • Sorry you had a rough night. When my DD gets like that I have to nurse her until she is solidly asleep, then rock her a little once we get up to make sure she is out cold, then keep my hand on her in the crib for a minute or two until I am sure she is not going to wake up.

Also a couple of really bad nights, all she wanted to do was nurse so she would nurse, fall asleep, wake up, reattach and nurse some more for about an hour or longer. It was kind of torture, but I dozed off and on too and by the time she was finished she was absolutely out cold.

Of course none of this may work for you. Whatever happens, I hope you have a better night!

  • When I get angry I go do laundry. It's in the basement and I can't hear yelling over the water running. ((Hugs)) We've had a few rough nights here lately, too.

  • Well knock on wood my little guy is getting over the up every hour business. When he was doing this I found the easiest thing was to make it to 3 or 4 am then bring him to bed with me. This way I would just pop the boob in his face & not have to get up. You still don't get the best sleep but at least your still horizontal & with your eyes closed, that's better than getting up & sitting in a chair in my opinion. Good luck, things will eventually get better!

My doctor's advice: you don't have to be awake because your baby is. Put her to bed, crank up the mobile and rest awhile.
  • I swear I almost cracked yesterday.. DH or for this purpose the man who occupied my bed sleeps through everything and gets all panicky when Arya starts crying. Pretty much leaves everything to me.

Anyways after 3.5 hours she finally got back to sleep, I cleaned up her clothes to get myself mellowed out and on some white noise and waited for her to fall asleep.

But man oh man... Here we are again this morning.

  • Same boat. I was used to waking to feed but he would go back down right after. Now he wakes as soon as I put him down. Ugh!
