So we have been getting calls from the woman who "helped" (she was very inept so I hate to think she did much) us with Ben's remains. She asks how we are doing and then informed us that she has left that company and works for another one now. She wants to give us a presentation in our home.

I called the funeral home the first time but since I didn't have the name of the new company she worked for they said they weren't able to do anything. They apologized and said it was very unprofessional. She has since called again and told me the company that she works for.


WWYD?

We don't know where to go from here.

Oh and the funeral home assures us that she didn't actually take any physical paperwork from Ben's file, though she obviously copied down our personal information.

Update: I called the CA Cemetery and Funeral Bureau today. They definitely want me to file a complaint with them and the Dept of Insurance. I really appreciate your encouragement and knowledge about the regulatory group. I hadn't even thought about that.

  • I would give the information to the funeral home, and ask them to keep you abreast of what steps they will take. I also know that funeral homes are pretty carefully monitored in our area, so I may also follow up with the regulatory body that oversees them and follow up with them.

    Partner IVF#1a- December 2013 - H's eggs, my Ute - CANCELLED due to low response
    Partner IVF #1b - February 2014 - H's eggs, my Ute - ER February 4 (10 retrieved, 3 fertilized), Transfer Feb 7 of one Grade 1 and one Grade 2 day 3 embryos.  1 - Day 3, Grade 1 frosty saved.   BFP - 6dp3dt via FRER, Beta #1 - 110, Beta #2 175, Beta #3 - 348, Beta #4 - 2222!, Beta #5 - 4255.  Ultrasound (6w1d) - 2 heartbearts!  

    We lost our beautiful Twin baby girls on June 18, 2014.  Tavin Sara and Casey Elizabeth were born at 21 weeks gestation and were absolutely beautiful, precious, amazing babies.  We miss our daughters every day and love them with all our hearts.

  • I would give the information to the funeral home, but make sure they understand that the breach of personal information is unacceptable and you want to be kept apprised of the situation.

    I also agree with @Manada that I'd follow up with the regulatory body overseeing things in your area. This woman is taking advantage of people going through a very difficult time and it's not right.

  • @lexusolsen - this is just so horrible and I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I agree with the above posters about calling your funeral home and the regulatory body in your area.
  • That is awful--so sorry you are dealing with that. I would, if you haven't already, tell her to stop calling you and then I would pass her information along to her previous employer. (Love the idea of contacting the regulatory body, but I'm such a slacker I know I would never follow through...but you should!)  :)

  • That is terrible,..im sure she is breaking some type of confidentiality/hippa law. Id talk to the okd funeral home as well as her to tell her to stop calling

  • How awful. I am so sorry that you have to deal with this. I definitely think you should file the formal complaint. What she is doing is not ok. If she contacts you again I would let her know that you filed a complaint against her and that you want for her to stop contacting you immediately. Good luck.

  • Im so sorry that you have to deal with this... ((Hugs)) to you and I agree with filing a complaint. I cant believe that someone would harass people in times of extreme grief such as this.

    HIIPA does not apply to funeral homes.
    I think it might have if she had taken or used info from the coroner but she didn't.

    Since we signed a contract specifically asking not to be contacted by companies providing "pre-need" services I am enclosing a copy of that form with each complaint.
