if you tore and got stiches, question for you

I had a VBAC last Saturday. I'm still in a lot of pain and discomfort. I'm taking sitz vaths, using the peri bottle, dermiplast spray, padsicles, 800 MG ibuprofen every 8 hours, Tylenol in between. It hurts to sit and feels "burn-y" and stings.

How long did it take you to not be in pain? When can I expect to walk and sit without pain? I swear this hurts worse than my C! (Although the percocet may have played a role...)

Re: if you tore and got stiches, question for you

  • The first time around, I only had a first degree tear, but I remember pain when sitting for a few weeks. This time around, I had a second degree tear and no discomfort really. So, I would say, it varies from person to person and even from delivery to delivery. I hope you feel better soon!

  • First time around I had a terrible recovery. I am certain my recovery was complicated by poor health care from my ob, so I will spare you that.

The second time around, I had a 2nd-3rd degree tear. The burning came any time it got too dry. I used a lidocaine gel and tucks pads, sitz baths, Peri bottle, ice padcicles, and was like clockwork on my pain meds. Even so, it was a good two weeks before I really felt I could move comfortably. And for me, it did get worse before it got better. So I would probably say that any time now you should be turning the bend into feeling better!

  • I have a 2nd degree tear, and it's been terrible! I gave birth 8/1, and I'm still in pain. I've seen a lot of improvement in the past couple of days, but the pain is still requiring medication at times. Sitting is the worst! I hope your recovery goes better than mine!

  • With DD I had a 3rd degree tear and it took about 3 weeks before I was feeling a lot better. This time I had an emergency C and already feel better than I thought I would. Every delivery is different. Just try to take it as easy as you can. If you aren't already use dermaplast down there.

  • From my vague recall, I'd say 3-4 weeks to be somewhat comfortable. Definitely not normal, but not miserable either. 3rd degree episiotomy/tear

  • I had a 2nd degree tear (gave birth 10 days ago to a 9 lb 12 oz baby) and I've been feeling pretty good the last day or two, though still uncomfortable occasionally. I haven't done a lot of walking around yet, though. Hopefully we can try a short walk tomorrow.

  • I had a second degree tear sideways and a small tear down. I'm about 2 weeks out and am still sore, but it's a lot better than last week. Sitting still sucks if I'm not reclined way back.

  • I had an episiotomy with my first son, and recovery was hell, I was extremely sore for weeks, had a rough time moving and sitting, and ended up not healing right and needing some granulation tissue burned off at 8 and 12 weeks post partum. I just delivered early Thursday morning, and had a second degree tear along my old episiotomy scar, but getting around/moving so much easier this time, I notice my stitches are there but they aren't particularly horrible, and I just barely delivered, it hasn't even been 48 hours. I suspect my doctor took much more care in stitching me up this time, as last time my OB appeared very rushed and I think that contributed to the poor outcome and healing :/

  • I had an episiotomy the first time and it took like 2 weeks to feel good enough to sit for any length of time. This time I had a 2nd degree tear and I'm a week and a half out and feel pretty good. I didn't really use much of the narco they gave me, mostly just Motrin this time around. The first time I asked to get the norco refilled cause it was so sore. They gave me epi foam at the hospital and I think it works better than the dermaplast.

  • I had my VBAC last Friday and I had a second degree tear. I am already feeling much better. Moving mostly normal and only took about 4 Tylenol today. I still use the peri bottle and have been putting witch hazel in my pads a few times a day, but discomfort while peeing is gone. I still have moments where it feels like I have over done it. And I still can't sit certain positions, but it's miles better from a few days ago even. But I also had a pretty quick recovery from my c-section so perhaps I heal fast,,, I hope it gets better for you :)

  • After reading everyone's responses I'm feeling pretty lucky. I had a second degree tear and felt pretty good after about one week. Of course I've had hemorrhoids since before pregnancy that probably bother me more than the tear. Heck maybe I'm just used to having pain down in that region....

I agree though about the area hurting more if it's too dry.

  • I had a second degree and third degree tear. Yesterday was the first day I didn't take pain meds, I had LO 2.5 weeks ago. My Dr did a good job stitching me up but I'm not good about taking it easy so I kept pushing it at home. Dermaplast, peri bottle, and tucks pads were my friend!

  • Yeah, 10 days out from a second degree and also hemorrhoids like I can't believe. Still having difficulty sitting in a normal chair (spend my days reclined in recliner), but it's definitely improving. I use the peri bottle, tucks pads and dibucaine ointment. Definitely wasn't expecting to take this long to heal, but sounds pretty standard compared to everyone else.
  • @potterowl‌ - what is the tea blend?

  • Lurker...gave birth 8/1 to an 8lb girl and had a second degree tear. I feel normal now but the first few days were hell. I took 800mg ibuprofen around the clock and a few doses of Percocet too. Now I don't have to take anything but man did I need it right afterwards! Kudos to all the ladies who never took any pain meds or just took ibuprofen! I also used the peri bottle, Dermaplast, and tucks pads the first week.
  • I ordered the earth mama bottom spray and herbs! Yay for Amazon prime
