Good high-fat/protein meals for young toddler?

My little peanut has been steadily dropping percentiles for height and weight (She's almost 13 months). Our pedi's not too concerned because DH and are both smaller people and its likely genetics, but I need to make sure she is getting enough (high quality) calories. Doc suggested whole dairy products, meats, avocado. Anyone have some good baby/toddler friendly recipes or resources? Iron level is also borderline low so high iron foods are good, too. Of course my 4 year old doesn't need all the full-fat dairy products so looks like I'll be making separate meals somewhat! Lol

  • We helped my then underweight dd get back to where she should be with smoothies. We mix kefir, flaxseed and almond milk with whatever fruits and veggies we have on hand.

  • Also ditto mrsmuq that full fat dairy Is a healthy choice for all kids not just underweight ones. No need to make seperate meals.

  • Dylan was under 18 lbs at a year old.  We monitored her weight for 3 months and then tried to add weight for 3 months.  Neither made a difference, but we'd give her whole fat yogurt and lots of avocados.  I have a love for cream soups, she has a love for pastas.  She still isn't a big eater still, but picks and chooses what she wants (like the dinner roll with PB tonight over the tortellini soup).

Exactly why can't your 4yo have full-fat dairy meals? I mean, what the heck are you making? Foods drenched in cheese-cream sauces? You don't need to make separate meals.

    Example meals - lunch:
Avocado with whole-grain crackers and fruit/veggie side
Hummus with pita bread and fruit/veggie side
    Full-fat yogurt with fruit
Flatbread pizza with meatballs and onion
    Cream of spinach/tomato/insert veggie soup

    Dinner ideas:
Homemade mac-n-cheese with broccoli or peas mixed in
    Ground chicken tacos
Grilled salmon with potatoes and grilled veggies
Shredded pork or chicken with cucumber/tomato salad

Thanks for the input. Dd1 is about 75% for weight and 40% for height, so I just meant that we don't need to focus on high-fat foods for her. I was mostly joking as I am not the short order cook type at all.

These are the kind of meals I make and that my 13 month old eats with us, but she's been dropping percentiles so I thought maybe I need to do more. Maybe my breastmilk supply had been dropping and I hadn't realized it though, and now she may gain more weight since she's mainly on solids?Pedi mentioned "hardy meat sauces".

DD2 was 17lbs some ounces at 12 month visit, and only like 10% for height. She eats a lot so I truly think she's going to be a small kid. She just started out a big baby so the pattern looks a bit concerning.

  • We did smoothies with peanut butter or full fat yogurt/Greek yogurt. Dip fruit in yogurt with some honey drizzled on. I like to take whole wheat wraps/tortillas spread with pb, wrap around a banana and cut into slices. For a while he would eat plain avocado, then he was really into guacamole or hummus and pita chips.

  • You may already have this recipe as I've seen it in other forums, but my almost one year old loves the chicken fingers with apple recipe you'll find on this page:  https://www.homemade-baby-food-recipes.com/infant-finger-food.html.  Lots of protein.
