Disposable diapers!

Not sure if anybody already created a thread about diapers so here goes!

First time momma here ready take ANY advice on disposable diapers! How many and of what sizes do we need to stock up on BEFORE baby comes!? My other question is how to find the best deals on diapers!?

Re: Disposable diapers!

  • Unless someone gives me some, I only plan on buying 1 or maybe 2 boxes of NB size and a few boxes of Size 1. More than that I will get after LO is here. First, I just don't have space for much more than that. Second, there's no reliable way to predict what size she'll be. I'd hate to get a bunch of NB size only to have them be too small.

  • With DS, I bought a small pack of diapers per week during my pregnancy and this time as well. I only bought a couple of NB and 3-4 of size 1. The rest are 2 and 3.

  • I am buying little by little but kind have stopped because I'm contemplating going the cloth diaper route. I think during the newborn stage, I'll do both. I am stocking up quite slowly but same time am struggling even stocking up because we don't know of this or that brand would work with the LO. Like other posters said, diapers are either good, bad, or so-so. If one pack doesn't work then move to another pack until you know this brand works then try to grab them on sales. I hear diapers.com and amazon is a great way to save on diapers once you know for sure this particular brand works for your child.

I'll be doing the Honest Company bundle. I really can't pass up on 6 packs of diapers plus four packs of wipes for $80! Plus i've heard that despite being green, they fit well and have excellent absorbency. Might get a reg pack of diapers once i determine her size, so i don't have 6 packs of too big/small diapers lying around. (If you want to try HC diapers before bundling like i will, they are sold at buy buy baby).

  • Thanks everyone! I was def thinking about trying out each brand Huggies, pampers, BabiesRus! I'll have to check out the target brand!
  • @StacyMarie33‌: even better! Although both of my targets are crappy and don't sell them -_-

  • We are pre-stocking with diapers. I found a blog that we are using as a guideline except holding off on the newborn diapers until birth. We aren't getting as many of each catagory like the list but we are getting most. If we don't use them all then I'll save them for LO number 2 or give to someone in need.

  •  I still haven't gotten around to pricing out diapers, but for my kiddos (who are 21-11) now and a foster dd, I swore by Luvs! They always worked great, didn't give them rashes and seemed to be among the cheapest out there, and sold most places.

I never really stocked up much, maybe one extra pack. I lived in a very small space with our babies and had no room really. Now I have a big ol house but old habits are hard to break lol.
  • No advice on stocking up but I will say I love Costco Kirkland diapers, they are very good, and good price.

We cloth diaper, but for back ups or traveling we use Honest Co. I love them! They are the only disposables that we tried that don't smell awful, and my son never gets a rash on them.

I know what you mean, I cannot stand the smell of pampers.

  • If you're planning on stockpiling diapers, this site might be helpful.

Honestly, we're doing it. But we're also having twins and I am terrified of how many diapers we're going to be going through. I'd rather get a head start on them while we're both still working and getting paid full time (before I go on maternity leave).

I do make sure to tape the receipt to any box of diapers I buy incase I need to return them, however. That way I can take advantage of sales (something you can't do if you plan to just set aside x-$ a week or put it on a gift card to prepare for future diaper costs).

  • Keep receipts if you're stalking up, like PP have said. We had a variety and discovered only pampers Swaddlers worked at first, then once they were mobile we switched to huggies. Luvs made both girls break out in horrible rashes within an hour of having them on, so that pack went in the trash. You just never know....

  • I agree with everyone that says not to stalk up too much. Definitely want to see which brand fits your baby best/ which one is absorbent in the right places/which size your baby is. My friend had a chunky lil boy and target brand worked great for her because they are so absorbent in the front(where he needed it). My daughter was too skinny for target brand. Huggies have more elastic and fit her better and are more absorbent in the back where she needed it. She wore preemie and newborn sizes a long time and we stalked up on 1s & 2s and she was in and out of them crazy fast. I ended up giving a ton away.
