Secondary IF

Re-Intro...

Hey Ladies!
After a long lurking hiatus I am hoping to come back and be active on the board again.  Quick back-story...I initially intro'ed on this board fall '13 after a year of trying on our own and starting out with our RE.  We are unexplained (conceived our now 5yo DS first month not preventing) with the exception of one of my husbands s/a coming back with 5% morphology (two subsequent s/a were "normal"). So not sure if that first one was a fluke or if it just varies.  Either way, here we are at 2+ years TFAS, tried one IUI and a few months of accupuncture and are now thinking about IVF in late Sept/early Oct.
Anyway, there seemed to be a mass exodus of most of the ladies I "knew" on this board in the late spring and now there are only a few veterans that might recognize my screen name at this point...so I thought I would re-intro instead of being a total random that just jumped back into posting ;)

Re: Re-Intro...

  • I remember you :) Welcome back. Just curious, what was your reason for only trying the one IUI? I'm asking because I just did 1 IUI myself, followed by the 2 IVFs, now I am KICKING MYSELF for not trying more IUIs- I have an appt in Sept and I want to see if I can try more IUIs at that point. For me personally I think my IUI was timed pretty crappy, and I can probably make that shit work-

It sounds like we have similar histories at this point, we're unexplained too.. ugh

    Anyway, good luck :)

  • Hey there Mrs Castillo!
So, we ultimately decided on only one IUI due to success rates and finances.  Our RE only gave us about a 14% success rate with IUI and each cycle would cost us about $3-4,000 with all the meds & monitoring.  So we figured to do 3 IUIs would cost us around 12K and that was getting close to the cost of an IVF cycle.  Our RE gave us closer to 50% success rate with IVF so we decided to try one and then save the 8K to put toward IVF.  We are unfortunately OOP for everything fertility treatment wise :(
That's our story-but if IUIs would have been covered we definitely would have gone for more of them!
  • Hi there! Sorry you are back here but I am wishing you the best. We too are doing IVF, also OOP :-/

Looking forward to getting to know you and GL!
