Soothers

We are going to attempt to transition DD to her crib this weekend from the RNP (please pray for us).  I was trying to think of ways to get her to sleep in there and my sister recommended a soother that attaches to the side of the crib or the Fisher Price seahorse one.  I would think that it would stimulate DD too much but I guess its called a soother for a reason.  Has anyone had success with using one to get their LO to fall asleep?  Thanks!

Re: Soothers

  • I have a fisher price safari one that lights up, plays music, moves and plays chirping and rain sounds. I thought it would over stimulating too but it has settings. You can have everything going at once or just the music or the chirping. After a while it lulls them to sleep but it can be entertaining during the day too.

  • We have a mobile that does changing lights and music. While she likes to look at it, we've learned that's not the one to use for getting to sleep. It stimulates her more. For night we have a noise machine and use the ocean noises when she's fussy. Back in the early days, it was the heartbeat sound that was the winner. Now that she's almost 3 months ocean or rain works great.

  • I'm glad you asked this as we are transitioning LO in the next few weeks too and were wondering this too. Probably going to pick up a sleep sheep or that ocean soother this week.

  • We just transitioned to the crib (@2months) this week. We have been using this (just the white noise for now since the lights stimulate her too much) with a lot of success - good luck! https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00H3X80UO/ref=mp_s_a_1_fkmr1_1?qid=1408142215&sr=8-1-fkmr1&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

  • We use the Sleep Sheep on rain or waves. At first, it seems to stimulate her because she turns towards the sound and rubs the sheep's foot, but after a while it lulls her to sleep.
  • we have a mobile with a projector, a soother, and a white noise machine. B gets all the soothing lol
  • We play forest sounds on my ipod every night when we put LO to bed and it puts her right out. When she was littler, ocean sounds or more typical white noise sounds worked best for her. Fwiw we keep a nightlight on in her room mostly for us to be able to see during MOTN feedings, and I think that's almost too much. Something lighting up in her crib would definitely keep her up longer.

  • My mom and  I sing the same lullaby to DD when rocking her to sleep, and now I've found if I just lay her down and sing to her it knocks her out.  I guess she's learned to associate those songs with sleepy time. Here is actually a good article about how babies in the NICU actually did a lot better physically with mothers who sang to them compared to mothers who just cuddled their babies!  And keep in mind if you don't have a great voice, LO's don't know that ;-)

  • Since DS isn't sleeping anyways I've started putting him in his crib so he can get used to it while not sleeping. We are using an old iPhone to play a white noise app. Womb sounds wins right now. It's got a creepy dude saying "shhhh" that freaks me the hell out. I've seen too many horror movies. But seriously, can you imagine listening to that on the monitor?

  • Our lo loves her baby einstein aqurarium soother for sleeping. It has the ocean quiet sounds, and has moving pieces that calm her. The fisher price light up toy does nothing for her.

Being with my LO rocks! DD born 6/13/14.

  • We use the fan. The noise from it soothes her every night.
  • @babygabe614‌ and @ElTrain5‌ we also use the ap! That's hushing dude is creepy. H likes the womb sound too.

I just bought this yesterday! We haven't started using it yet.  We have a bath, swaddle, bottle nighttime routine that knocks him out and then he goes into the crib.  This is his long sleep and then around 3 or 4 he wakes up for a feeding and I hoping to put him back in the crib with the aquarium, instead of the mama-roo next to my bed :) Ive heard great things about this one.

  • Get a $25 white noise machine. My son has been listening to classical since 6 months and he is an incredible sleeper. :)

We use our humidifier that makes a subtle constant noise which has been working great. We also have a little light on the baby monitor that is right above her crib. She loves to stare at it which looks like she is looking into the camera. We call her our little moth. I am also borrowing my friend's fisher price projector. She said the best part is that if it goes off after 20 mins, there is a remote control to start it again so LO never need to see my face since that reminds her of food.
  • We started using the crib for naps last week and last night we started using it for night time, too. We have a sleep sheep and use the rain sound. We also have a tranquil turtle (the green lady bug version) as a night light
