Gender Scan at 16 Weeks - Too Early?

So I have my anatomy scan scheduled for Sept 9th (19 weeks) and my children won't be able to go with us. We are leaving on vacation tomorrow and thought it might be fun to have a gender only scan with the girls. I will be 16 weeks and the clinic only requires you to be 15 weeks. For $75 we figured it would be something our girls would always remember from the vacation and we could tell DH's side of the family since we are all meeting at a beach house that night. I know it's early, but not too early. Anyone have experience with this? Good or bad, I'd just like some input. Thanks!

Oh, and I apologize in advance for calling it a gender scan...that's just what the clinic called it. We want to find out our babies SEX.

No 16 weeks is not too early for sex determination. My anatomy scan is actually scheduled with my doctor at 16wks.

I've heard of people finding out as early as 13 weeks so I say go for it! My doc told me well definitely know the sex at my 17 week appointment.

We have our elective scheduled for Tuesday. I will be 14w5d. They told me I would only need to be 14 weeks. My tech at my NT appointment at 13w had also said that if it's a 3d/4d, then they can tell the sex.

I go in for mine at 15w4d, but my babies have been measuring 4-6 days ahead.

Well, it isn't a scan just for that, but they have said they will most likely tell the sex then.

Thanks ladies, now I have a little more confidence! With the girls I found out at 18 and 19 weeks, but knew they say you can find out earlier. I just can't wait to see their faces! They are 6 and 4 so totally are into and excited for this baby! Good luck with your early scans if you're having them, too!

We had our gender determination at 16 weeks with my last pregnancy. It was very easy to tell it was a boy. We had both sets of grandparents and my sister with us. As soon as the tech showed that area everyone said OOOO. Not too early! Good luck!

I found out 16 weeks on the dot with our first. And we went today at 15 weeks 3 day and it was clear as day that this one was a little girl as well.

I am so glad you posted this. My OB said to schedule another US in 4 weeks...and I didn't think to question it in the office until I was driving home. Then I started wondering if he told me to schedule an US or something else...but I guess I'm not losing my mind, we are going to do our anatomy scan at 17 weeks!

We were told at our NT scan, when I was a little over 13 weeks, that it is a boy. I've had some people tell me that that was too early and not to trust it. I'm still waiting until my 18 week ultrasound to make any boy purchases or get rid of any girl things, and I won't be dissappointed if it turns out differently. I'm ready for whatever!! Lol I would think 16 weeks is probably more accurate and that they would be able to tell though :-)

At 14 weeks they say the gender parts are complete. I'm having a elective U/S at 15 next week. My A/S isn't until week 20.

I found out with both of my boys at 17 weeks. I would think that 16 weeks would be good.

I just booked an ultrasound for the end of next week. I'll be almost 16 weeks. I sure hope they're able to tell me! Can't wait!

At my nt scan yesterday they said you can tell anytime after 15.

My next appointment is at 16 weeks. I'm 13 weeks now. I've heard of a lot of people finding out as early as 13 weeks. I do have a question for all the other ladies though... Since you can find out t 16 weeks..was it through the 4d or a regular US? My doctor is awesome but very old fashioned and doesn't have the best US machine lol! I'm just really hoping to find out but worried he isn't going to because of bad quality maybe? Idk. I always get US though because I've always been high risk so I know I'll get one but just hoping I can find out the sex.

You should be able to tell that early.

Mine is at 19 weeks. MW asked to wait until 19-21 weeks to makes sure that all major organs had enough time to develop to where they should be. After all, the main point of the "20 week ultrasound" is more so checking developmental progress than it is about the sex. That's just a really awesome bonus

I was told at my NT scan that it's most likely a boy. I was a little over 13 weeks. I know some people will argue that that's too early. And I'm definitely taking it with a grain of salt! Waiting until my next ultrasound before I buy anything blue :-)

My OB is planning on making me wait until 22 weeks for my A/S which will be my next ultrasound. I wasn't a fan of that timeline!! (among many, many other reasons) We're going to a midwife who will hopefully send us to a different location ASAP. I'll definitely try at 16 weeks I she'd let me
