Are you talking about cervadil? I'm scheduled to start that Sunday night. From what I've read, cervadil is used to ripen and dilate the cervix, and pitocin follows if needed to start contractions. I've also read that for some cervadil put them into labor also. Curious to hear answers from others!
The cervadil didn't do much for my cervix. Well, neither did the pitocen afterwards. LO just refused to come out vaginally. I ended up with a c-section. I think it effectivity depends on the stats of your cervix when you get these meds. If you have some dilation and your cervix has dropped, they might work. My cervix was high and tight as a drum and I was not dialated. I ended up with a c section, but little Jax and I are doing well. That's the important thing.
I never post, but I actually have some input on this I was given cervadil with my first pregnancy almost 6 years ago, once the day before my due date and once the day of (at that time, I actually just went to the hospital, had it inserted, and then went home. Sounds like they don't do that anymore?) Anyways, after having it inserted on the 2nd day, I went into labor at home and had my daughter without the need for pitocin about 9 hours later. Hopefully it works for you! Good luck!
Like PP I never post either. But the gel worked for me. I was induced with the gel with my first due to HBP. They injected it sent me home for 6 hours, went back to the hospital at 2PM and had my daughter at 8:30 the next morning.
I had cervadil twice (which I'm sad to say hurt and caused crazy back labour) and it did nothing so on the third day of my induction we tried the gel. It only caused my water to have a slow leak and for me to progress from 1 to 3 cm. once they realized my water had ruptured as they called it thy hooked me up to petocin. I received the max dosage of that and was only 4 cm. so a c section it was. 4 long days of trying everything. But in the end section was best option because they realized she was coming face up which was a large factor in causing the extreme back pain. I wish everyone better luck with the induction process. I hope it truly works
So baby boy was born last night after an induction started wed night. Overall I have to say it was a very easy process. Cervidil was placed when I got in and the removed at 7 the next morning. Started pitocin and that got things going for sure.
The cervidil they used for me was a gel that was encased in like a netting. There was a long string attached to it. So they put the gel (encased in the netting) behind my cervix and the pulled the string to remove it the next morning. Hopefully that helps! I'm happy to answer any questions you might have. I was definitely nervous before we went in to the hospital!
