2nd Trimester

Pregnancy rage

Before I conceived, I was always pretty even tempered unless it was that time of the month. Now I am almost 21 weeks with a baby boy and things as small as hearing about a guy being a jerk to my best friend is enough to make me mad. Also before pregnancy, I never honked at anyone and now if someone as much as cuts me off, they will get a honk. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a total monster, but has anyone experienced a quicker temper with pregnancy??

Agree with PP that for your own sake you should probably avoid stressful situations to the extent possible and practice a few calming mantras that those of us who are less naturally even keeled use on a regular basis like "My baby and I are safe, everything else is just noise" or "I'm lucky for all of my blessings" such that you can refocus your attention on the positive and calming after whatever pisses you off crosses your mind.

But my main reason for posting is to say that nothing your describing would be out of the ordinary behavior in my circle of friends w/o pregnancy or PMS-- so you don't need to worry you're becoming a monster.  It's a shame there's no pregnancy equivalent of "Bridezilla" (that I know of) because I think it would really put being over protective of your friend and road rage in perspective. :)  Be easy on yourself.

  • Yes. Totally had it for the first couple of months. One time I was driving on a high over pass and yelling at someone over my car's blue tooth when the traffic came to a stand still due to rush hour. I was stuck on that overpass for a while and totally worked up from my fit that I started having a really bad panic attack- like the kind you would get from a fear of heights. I was all alone and it was not fun. Be careful not to let your emotions get the best of you. You are in control of them but after a certain point, your body might respond in a fight-or-flight way and that could be dangerous for the baby. Deep breaths.
  • I'm also pretty even tempered, but I had a huge outburst of rage when I was pregnant with my first. Unfortunately I don't just get mad, I end up crying and blubbering. So what started as a self-righteous tirade against students who thought they were better than other students ended with me, sitting in the professors office and sobbing while she asked me about my Fourth of July shoes.

I expected it this time so I'm better prepared but sometimes idgaf and don't mind raging.

  • I definitely have "maternal" instinct kicking in. LOL

My BIL kept making derogatory comments about my OTHER niece (not his child) and how she gets on his nerves. OH BOY, did he learn quickly how not to talk about an innocent child in front of me ever again.....

  • I had it bad with my 2nd pregnancy for some reason. Felt totally fine after the baby was born though and no aggression issues with this baby #3. Thankfully!!
  • I feel like my temper is better than before. I used to get mad often about stupid stuff but now nothing really bothers me. I try not to stress so it's easy for me to let something go. I don't care about what people say, I just laugh about it now. It helps with avoiding stress.
