TTC After a Loss

wwttcal do? progesterone question

edited August 2014 in TTC After a Loss

So I had my progesterone checked today after my IUI on Saturday (so 6dpiui) and it came back at 47...my numbers have never been over 10 I don't think since I have been having them checked this year.  I am doing several things different this cycle- clomid instead of femara, trigger shot, iui, and estrogen patch so these may or may not be coming into a effect with the number.

anyway- my RE said that my usual progesterone supps are not necessary this cycle but she understands if I still want to take them.  She says it won't hurt anything and I can decide what to do.  I would love to not wear a pantyliner the next week and a half but am terrified of doing something to hurt a possible bfp...is it safe to take the extra (I am assuming it is since my RE said it couldn't hurt but I am going into ttcal paranoia over here).  any thoughts?

Also, I have not taken any progesterone supps this cycle- I usally start 3dpo but my RE wanted to see my natural number since we did so many things different.

It's great that your numbers came back so much higher than usual! I don't have any advice from experience but from what you've said, I think I would take them anyway. It seems like it will give you peace of mind and if your RE says it won't hurt anything to take them, then maybe the side effects are worth your peace of mind?
I agree- as much as I would want to stop taking them as well to avoid the yucky side effects, I think I would continue to take them just because I'm a total "what if-er."  My RE and I haven't discussed exactly what we'll do once I get a "green light," but I took progesterone the last time just as a precaution/it can't hurt, so I likely will again.  Even considering a baby aspirin a day to rule that out.  TTCAL is such an emotional roller coaster- I'm game for anything that will help easy my mind even just a bit.  Best wishes as you move forward!! :)
  • What do they consider to be a safe level? Can you have another check at some point to verify the levels are still high enough?

  • My last 2 cycles after IUI, my RE made me take them, so I don't know any different! However, and this is just me, if it can't hurt to take them than I would just do it. Anything that could give me a SMALL piece of mind, I will take!!

  • I agree with PP. I would just take them as an extra help. GL
  • I have LPD so I always have to take progesterone. I asked my RE about long term use of progesterone and she said it would not be harmful. If you can do it I say go for the progesterone
