Disneyland hotel?

We're planning on taking the kids to disneyland early next year and want to book things sooner than later.  My first research item is the hotel. I've looked into the Disney hotels and was wondering if there are any good non-Disney hotels I should be looking at?

The kids will be 5 and almost 3 by then. I doubt naps will be an issue but we may want to go back to the hotel for some down time in the afternoons. I would like a room that has a separated bedroom so dh & I can stay up a bit later than the kids. I would like to be very close walking distance and I would also like a fun pool with things like water slides.  Does this exist?? Lol

Re: Disneyland hotel?

  • We stay at the paradise pier, it's the cheapest on site hotel. But the disneyland hotel is very nice. Paradise pier looks like it could be furthest on the map, but you cut across the grand californian and it's super close! The hotels across the street are sometimes actually closer. The Howard Johnson waterpark one is awesome, has great family suites. The park vue inn is great too, right across the street. But everything close not on site is a motel. So depending on your expectations, look at reviews. None have interior hallways. We just found it too loud. One pretty nice one is Candy Cane Inn, it's actually the nicest motel I have seen. We love Disneyland!

  • We stayed at the Hilton on Convention way. I loved it, the service was amazing and they have a pool area that is amazing. It even a little water park area for kids with slides, water buckets dumping, stuff like that. We walked to disney land from there but I wouldn't want to walk kids the whole way. If you had them in a stroller you would be fine. Or you could take the bus that leaves from the hotel and goes straight to disney (I think it was a couple bucks per adult).

There is a marriot across the street but I didn't stay there. Other people I talked to said it was great, though.

  • I'd suggest something like an Embassy Suites if you want the separate bedroom. I'm pretty sure there are two near Disneyland.
