Camping... 55 degrees...?

Just checked the weather. Says it's going to be 55 in the middle of the night. Too cold for tent camping with a baby? Thoughts?

Re: Camping... 55 degrees...?

  • I did it with my dog when he was a puppy and it got down to 40, and he was in a crate. He is also a dog who has hair not fur. I ended up putting a blanket on him...he's still kicking now! I'm just saying. You don't really have to use this as comparison. :)

  • Not too cold as long as baby is snuggeled up!  Just layer onesie under pj's and double layer if needed.  Have fun!  I love camping, well should say used to as I haven't done it in a few years.
  • If you can safely sleeping-bag-share, your body heat will keep LO warm. Although I don't know what safe sleeping-bag-sharing looks like.

I don't trust myself bed sharing at home let alone on an air mattress so we plan on using the pnp. I'm still lounging around the house though... no motivation...
  • I really wanted to go camping this year, but we decided not to for this reason. We went last year, and I had 2 sweatshirts and 2 comforters and I was still cold.

  • We decided against it. Too much work to even enjoy it. Mainly because my dog becomes an asshole the minute we enter the campground
  • We went camping last month and it was 50 when we woke up at 6:30 so maybe even cold in the middle of the night. Colton loved it. He wore a zip up fleece footie pj and we sleeping bag shared. Actually he was a terrible sharer. He slept in the sleeping bag (at his waist) and I hung out in the cold next to him, lol. He wasn't rolling over at the time so I wasn't worried.

  • You guys are troopers that tent camp in the cold.  We have a camper and it was really chilly (in the high 40's I think) but we didn't know we needed both electric and propane to turn on the furnace so we just froze that first night, but like I said, in a camper with a bed and blankets.  Though we do have a cool gel mattress topper so that didn't help....felt like we were sleeping in a cold wet bed.

  • Hi! I don't post on here often, but I've taken my baby camping twice so far and we really like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003FZPD1I?pc_redir=1408173037&robot_redir=1

We took her to Mammoth, Ca and it was about 50 degrees. We put her in a long sleeved onesie, a fleece sleeper, socks, and this little sleeping bag. She slept great. It does seem to run big. My girl is 14.5 pounds and the 6-18month option seemed to be too big for her (but I am paranoid). I think it's great that people are taking their babies camping!
  • Was going to recommend that same sleep sack! We've had good luck with it.
