Cloth Diapering

freaking disposables!

LO is a preemie and only weighs about 4 lbs right now (4 lbs 9 ozs on monday). Since the family found out we have a preemie they went out and bought so many preemie disposable diapers so there was no real need to buy preemie cloth...

i have ALL the regrets! The pampers are ok, no explosions and they fit her pretty decently however...huggies OMG i hate huggies and of coarse that's what we have the most of. She has exploded out of 2 of them in one day! Not only that but she's almost grown out of them.

I can't wait until she fits her newborn stash. I tried a few on her and the only one that seems to fit is the blueberry but it's giant on her. I could also make a prefold and cover work but again...giant. booooooo

  • Good idea! I think the RAR is the smallest i have. We also have thirsties covers. She about grown out of her preemie clothes so I'm hoping she'll fit into her cloth soon.

  • Definitely try the Rumparooz. They fit my preemie when she came home at a little over 5 lbs.

And when our preemie came at 32 weeks, we didn't so much get diapers as we got ALL THE PREEMIE CLOTHES! Seriously, we just wore the hospital gowns because she had to be weighed and fiddled with so much with all the probes and cords sticking on her- clothes were a huge pain in the ass. So then when she came home, she fit into maybe 1/4 of the preemie outfits (the rest were too small) for just a couple weeks, and the rest were saved as doll clothes because we had already removed the tags and washed them. Some of them are so small I can't believe they're for a human child. There's one hat that would fit over her kneecap now.

  • @countrycotton‌ i suggested doing that but FI got all offended...probably because it's hisfamily that bought us all huggies preemies...the othe pack came from the hospital. They also bought preemie onsies for her but she can't fit the preemies anymore. I think he's mad that I'm suggesting exchanging everything but is it worth it if we can't use anything??

  • Just do what works for you, and wait until she has outgrown stuff before you exchange it ... that way you can just say they bought more than you needed and she outgrew it before you could get to those packs, and it's not like their money is going to waste, it's to buy things that you can still use.

Who is FI? Is he standing over all the diaper changes making sure you use the Huggies?
  • I used bummis xs on my preemie over diapers at the hosp

  • I would ask FI if he would rather throw his family's money in the trash can or keep it around for years to come. They bought them to save you money, why not actually SAVE money?

  • The RAR is still to big...or to small on its smallest setting...i have a super bright i may try later. My plan is to have her wear a cloth diaper over to his parents later and see if they get the hint that we don't want disposables.

FI big deal is that his parents did something nice and we should accept it. I appreciate the gesture and thought we just don't need that many diapers.

as a side note I put on a bamboo prefold. It looks like it may fit without being to giant...i can't make the snappi grip it though.

  • I think you can take the diapers that no longer fit back (whatever is unopened) and they'll let you trade for a bigger size that you can use until she fits her NB stash,  Surely your FI wouldn't object to that? I'm sure the family wouldn't.  Trade them in for a few different sizes.  Chances are you will occasionally want to use sposies when travelling and such.
  • If your going to see the Inlaws today, show them the cloth and mention that you are going yo start using it more and more. Then casually ask if they mind you exchanging the others. You could just exchange for one smallish pack each of.several sizes. Then put these of the funds toward cloth. That might not be as objectionable to FI
