Weird sleeping positions..

Let me rephrase --when I put DS in his crib while he's still awake--he tends to wind up in weird positions.  He eventually fixes himself, but I hate seeing him like this for the time being..I know they won't continue to be uncomfortable..at least I don't think..I just hope he isn't causing any long-term issues with these crazy positions!

Re: Weird sleeping positions..

  • You lost me at "make DS cry himself to sleep."

That said, my LO falls asleep or ends up in all kinds of crazy positions.  I regularly wish I had a video monitor so I could take pictures.  Their bodies are much more flexible than ours, so it's not uncomfortable for them.
I assume you are anti-CIO?  It isn't like I let him sit there and cry for hours on end.  I do the modified CIO method and it's been great for him.  Learning to self-sooth is important.  He's a much better sleeper and much happier while he's awake!

  • @Sing2phins‌ it's flipping impossible to take pictures of my damn video monitor, don't feel bad without one, they end up freaking me out making me feel like that horrible movie is coming true ...can't remember the name, you know the creepy one caught on their home video and no, not the Blair witch project
  • Yes that's it .. Years later that movie still fucks with me

QFP, because you already edited out where you said he cries himself to sleep so who knows what else could change.

Normal. My DS has NEVER cried himself to sleep and he skitters all over the crib in weird positions all night long. I don't like CIO, but I also don't understand why you would associate his strange positions with that process. If you really think that's what causes him to end up in an uncomfortable position and wonder if he is causing long-term issues why keep doing it?
Sometimes he falls asleep nursing in which case I just transfer him to the crib and he stays in a normal position..yea he moves around a bit in his sleep, but it's only when I put him down awake (when he fusses a bit before falling asleep) that he gets in the really odd positions.  I keep doing it because I don't really think it's causing any problems and I think it's important for them to know how to self-soothe.

  • I can't see the picture, though it was there after I entered the code and everything - can you guys see it?

Yes. It shows up for me.
  • Ok totally going to hijack this post, sorry OP because I've been meaning to ask about wierd sleeping positions as well. Its not that she falls asleep in weird positions, which she does, its that when I put her to bed she's awake lately its like she just CAN NOT GET COMFY!

She doesn't cry or fuss (at least if i'm still in the room with her she won't) but she will just constantly move from back to side to stomach to sitting to laying face down to other side.....over and over and over, for like a good 10-20 minutes!

Its actually quite amusing and I assume part of it is because she is finally able to move her body so much better on her own, but all I can imagine as i watch her is that she looks like an adult who just can't get comfortable! I can tell she is tired and its not playful rolling around, its like she's just restless? Could she be overtired?

Any else have this going on? Any suggestions? TIA!

Once she finally does fall asleep she's been sleeping ok- say 8pm to 4 or 5 am so no additonal night wake ups.

and @SV917 I love the photos! Super cute!
  • I went to check on Mara to see if she had fallen asleep or not & this is what I found. She always winds up in weird positions. The other day I thought she had woken up from her nap & when I went in there she was still asleep. She was up against the side of the crib in the splits with both hands on the slats & her head on her leg. It was like she was trying to break free & got tired. It cracks me up.
    LMAO that pic is hilarious.

Another weird sleeper over here. The most frequent odd position is face buried in mattress, arms under chest, knees tucked under and butt up. Then again, I sleep in some odd positions at times, so I never thought anything of it.
This is how Neva sleeps every single night. Her knees are red in the morning when I get her out, but that seems to be the only position she likes!
