Better workout?

edited August 2014 in Parenting
What would you consider a better workout: 30 day shred or a 3 mile walk, pushing double stroller? The walk takes me about 1.5 hours. My goal is to loose 10-15 pounds and tone up. I've done 30ds since April, but have slacked off since July.

In a perfect world, I'd do both, but that's not going to happen.

Re: Better workout?

  • On a good week, I usually do shred 2x and walk 3x. My weight has been at a standstill for a few months now. So frustrating

  • I voted for walk, but not really because it's a better exercise, but because I feel like when I'm not super motivated to work out, walking with my kid is something I'm more likely to stick to doing. You may have more motivation than I do, just thought I would throw that out there though.

  • Another vote for a combo of both. But like pobre said, losing weight is probably 80% what you eat and 20% exercise, so make sure you are not undoing your workouts with food choices.

  • For weight loss and toning, you need both cardio and strength training.  I have not done 30 Day Shred.  Does it have enough cardio?

30DS is three rounds of 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio, 1 minute abs.

  • If you've been doing both and you're plateauing, I'd switch it up entirely. Maybe try a C25K program, you could start on a later week if the earlier ones are too easy, and then instead of 30DS, do a video more focused on toning or even something like yoga or Pilates.

  • More thoughts: vary the length and intensity of your cardio. The C25K, from what I understand of it, will do that to a degree.

I often try to do short, fast runs during the week and then a longer, slower distance on the weekend.

  • I voted walk but I'd add in stops to do pushups on park benches and walking lunges and squats etc., because I'm way more likely to do that than a program.
