Countdown to the dreaded baby shower (obviously not mine)

As many of you have already heard me complain about- a friends daughter (18) is ktfu. No job. No car. No boyfriend. No common sense. She is always complaining how fat and uncomfortable she is and how she already " loves her baby boy" ( barf ) I was hoping I would have to work as an excuse but nope. It's Sunday at the beach. I hope it rains.

I'm sorry, that sucks. In your situation, I would probably make an appearance (just to show my face) and then cut out early. Make an excuse - family in town visiting, not feeling well ...whatever! Sorry you even have to go though.

Oh no! I'm sorry! I would definitely go for a bit and leave early! Especially if it's outside and rains! I would have an excuse figured out ahead of time so that you feel comfortable with using it. (If I wait until I'm there to think of an excuse I feel like I'm lying!)

Doing a mental rain dance for you (I have too much shame to physically do one). I'd just make an appearance. Stay long enough to be polite and drop off the gift (perhaps grab a plate of free food) and get out.

@iPutKetchupOnKetchup‌ my last baby shower I attended they served mimosas. It's totally acceptable in my group of friends. :-)

Send your H to give a gift, make a quick "she had an emergency with her best friend/aunt/2nd cousin twice removed and wanted to make sure you got this" and then duck out. If they try to make YH stay, he can just say you wanted him to come straight over after dropping off the gift. If they ask questions, just say someone had to be hospitalized, but you don't want to go into detail because they asked you not to tell anyone. Done. ETA: BIG HUGS!

Ugh, sorry that just sucks. I agree with @theholmanherd‌ send your H with a gift and come up with an excuse. I ducked out of my BILs girlfriends baby shower last year and I don't regret it one bit. @iPutKetchupOnKetchup‌ that's hilarious, bring a flask, that would be my second option, fill it with hard liquor lol!!!

I agree with PPs...either fake an illness and don't go at all or make an appearance and duck out early if you feel obligated to attend.

I am the team party planner in my office. I always get everyone's birthday cakes etc. There are two pregnant girls on the team and I know already that I will be expected to host a team baby shower/maternity leave lunch or something. But I also already know that if my next 2 IUI's don't work there is absolutely no way I will be able to do it. I am going to take a week of vacation their last days in the office and pretend I forgot they were leaving.

I LOL'd at "I hope it rains". If you're really not feeling up for it, I would say you're sick. These types of things are the only reason I'm glad I have to work the occasional weekend - I always have an excuse.

Hm, what gift would be appropriately condescending, like you need this because you are not equipped to keep your child safe and healthy without my generous help? Baby medicine, safety latches for cupboards, plug things for sockets. Or perhaps a gift that focuses on some painful, nasty, uncomfortable aspect of pregnancy/infancy? I might put together a kit of hemorrhoid cream, nipple salve, cocoa butter for stretch marks, baby booger syringe, sitz bath, hemorrhoid pillow, cellulite cream...

Who needs an excuse? Just don't go. If she is really your friend then she will understand your hard time with it all. I say skip it and get a mani/pedi :-)

Well I had planned not to attend the shower (hubby was fine with this) then last min I decided it's not going to do me any good to sit at home and feel bad for myself. I started to regret it as soon as I got in the car- overall the shower was pretty lame and a few of my friends were their and as disgusted as I was so I was able to vent. We left pretty early but not early enough to miss the mom to be off with her friends smoking pot- yup real classy. Overall I guess it wasn't horrible- didn't really have to talk b/c they were so busy. Life just isn't fair tho
