I am going to try to do as much homemade as possible. It just seems like it wont be too difficult, fresher, better taste (possibly), etc. I cook for myself, why not my baby. I made peas yesterday and it couldn't have been easier. Plus, he really seemed to like them.
I'm also going to start w/ homemade and see what happens. ?We eat very healthy food w/o much fat/salt/sugar added, and I always make too much anyway so it wouldn't be any trouble to just run it through a mill for him. ?We eat a lot more veggies than fruit though, so I might buy some kind of all-natural fruit baby foods just to give him some variety. ?I haven't done any research yet as to what brands I'll want to try though.
Re: beech-nut, gerber or homemade
I'm going to start out homemade and see how it goes.
why?
1. I like knowing what's going into his food, especially when he's so young - no preservatives, no extra sugars, etc.
2. I feel like it will make transition to real 'adult' food easier, as he'll already be used to the taste of everything that we make.
3. I love the idea of being able to make stuff for DS, and as I'm not super crafty, and I love to cook, I'm actually looking forward to it.
home made.. though, I need practice.
