Books on sleep

One of my biggest worries as a FTM is how to instill healthy sleep habits in my child. I don't want to be too crazy or rigid about sleep training, ESPECIALLY in the early months, but I want to establish a good routine that won't get us into bad habits as a family. Have any of you ladies read or know of any good books on sleep? Or, do any STMs have any methods that have worked well for your family? I know we've had a few book threads, but I would love to discuss the ones specifically on sleep. ETA - I completely missed that an old book thread was just bumped. Sorry!

Re: Books on sleep

  • Yes, I read a book called Bedtiming, the Parents Guide to Getting Your Child to Sleep at Just the Right Age. It was unbelievably helpful for us. It talks about the different developmental stages that babies and toddlers go through and how it affects their sleep. It does not advocate one specific sleep training method, but briefly describes each one and tells you when is the best time to implement whatever method you choose, depending on what they are going through developmentally. I highly recommend this book.

  • Just stay away from babywise. Happiest baby on the block is a good book.
