Today I was told by my physician I don't only have PCOS but I too have a Bicornuate Uterus.. Has anyone on here had issues concieving due to a Bicornuate uterus?
Hey, I was diagnosed with an arcuate uterus, but my OB mistakenly called it a bicornuate for a few months. Little did she know that a MRI is required along with the HSG to complete an accurate diagnosis. It was a scary time when I was in limbo. Google freaked me out quite a bit. But what I learned is that bicornuate increases the chances of preterm labor and the miscarriage rate slightly, however there are a lot of success stories out there. Apparently it is the baby's position that is most troubling (breech) so the likelihood of needing a c-section is much, much higher. A septate uterus is a much riskier situation because the septum isn't oxygen rich. If the embryo implants on that part, then it will miscarry. This can and should be surgically corrected. An arcuate uterus is a benign variation, and from what I'm told should have no impact on a woman's ability to successfully carry a baby.
I had a uterine septum which causes several of the same issues. Were you diagnosed during your HSG? I was told at my HSG that you can't tell if it's bicornuate or septum until the scope goes in during surgery
They told me I had one due to my transvaginal ultrasound but they plan to do a lacroscopy on me to determine exactly how my uterus is. I took clomid this month and they did the ultrasound to check my follicles which I had one burst but they also seen this about my uterus. Now my fear is what If I did get pregnant this month on the clomid with a BU?
I totally agree with @iPutKetchupOnKetchup it really does sound pretty invasive to do a lap just to uncover a uterine anomaly. When I originally had a transvaginal ultrasound my doctor suspected in had a bicornuate uterus or unicornuate uterus. He wasn't sure if it was a bicornuate uterus that the other half was just folded to the back. But I had an MRI to confirm that was only half of the uterus, nothing was folded to the back. Now when I had my lap (for other reasons) he was able to really get measure of the unicornuate uterus. Well good luck with everything. I know uterine anomaly diagnoses can be very scary. I had no idea I even had one until we started TTC.
ETA: removed the weird spaces
Me: +35 DH: +35
TTC: Since January 2013
DX: PCOS. Severe Endometriosis, Unicornuate Uterus w/only left tube and left ovary, Pedunculated fibroid (on the outside of uterus) and Anovulation. All conditions diagnosed 8/13
TX: Metformin
DH DX: MFI - low morphology, low motility
Ultrasound shows both kidneys in spite of UU.
HSG showed clear tube on the left side.
Lap Surgery performed 1/9/14 to remove fibroid and endo (Stage 3)
IUI# 1 June 2014 started 100 mg of Clomid - 7dpiui Progesterone: 13: BFN
IUI#2 July 2014 started 100 mg of Clomid - 7dpiui Progesterone: 5.75: BFN
Natural Cycle - so shocked to be in 2WW - 7dpo Progesterone: 15.5: BFN
Working with new RE starting injectables in late August.
I never had an Mri with my issue. They weren't sure if I had a bicornuate or septum so we went straight to a lap. The reasoning I was given was that it is 100% accurate in terms of diagnosing the two. Also if it's a septum they can remove it while they're in there and if it's bicornuate thy can see the structure much better.
However I also had Endo so maybe that's why they jumped to the lap.
@Champs28 that's a good point. Also did you know you had endo before the lap? Mine was uncovered during lap, but I never had a clue. Never had any real symptoms at all.

The only thing I heard is that it's important to have a singleton birth - but I am not sure if that is accurate. I guess that could affect your treatment choices?
