8 weeks left & no name

I have 8 weeks left and I'm having a little boy. This is my first child (tad excited) just stressing about a name as we can't agree on a first name.

I liked PHoneix John-Lawrence
He likes Marley John-Lawrence

But only thing we can agree on is the middle name which is JOHN LAWRENCE after our grandfathers or Lawerence John (not decided which way round we like yet)

I want a unusual and uncommon name can anyone help?

Re: 8 weeks left & no name

  • Phoenix is awesome. My only association w Marley is the dog. And a girl from high school

  • I don't personally like either name. NMS.

  • I'm sorry I don't want to be rude but I honestly feel like both of those names are really feminine. So I was thinking which one could be shortened to something manly when he is an adult. I suppose a Marley could go by Marlo. Or what about Marlon instead of Marley? Like Marlon Brando?

  • I agree with @MrsSarahRenee I don't really like either name. Marley to me is a dog. Phoneix is not a name to me. Also did you mean to spell it Phoneix or did you mean Phoenix?

  • Honestly, I don't like either first name. They are NMS. I agree with @geetagirl05, I would use John Lawrence as the name.
  • I agree with @geetargirl05, I much prefer just John Lawrence

  • Yeah, just John Lawrence was going to be my suggestion too. However, before I opened this thread, the name that popped into my head was Charles. So, my vote is Charles John-Lawrence. Good thing it was a boy ;)

  • I agree with PPs. I associate the name Marley with the dog. Phoenix is nice, and I think it would be a cool name to carry from childhood through adulthood. I am not sure if it's common, but I don't think I have heard it used that often.
  • I'm with you... I have 8 weeks left and we haven't even thought of one name! Plus, we have to think of a boy and girl name! I know two Marleys and they are both girls. I personally would go with Phoenix.
  • We had a girls name picked out then found out it was a boy ;;) does anyone have any other uncommon names instead. As for the spelling of Phoenix my phone keeps correcting it, Phoenix is a legendary bird that rose from the ashes, we discussed John lawerence as the first and middle names but as we agreed to have both for the benefit of our parents we would like to keep them as middle names. I'm due the 15th October ::D

We nearly named our daughter Marley, and I know a woman named Marley, so I really think of it as a feminine name.  And I know a dog named Phoenix, so that's what I tend to think of.  It's a girl dog, too, so there's that.

I like Lawrence John as a name, though.  I think Lawrence is unique without being trendy right now - it's more of an older name.

I also like PP's suggestion of Marlon instead of Marley.  Same thing with being unique but not trendy.

ETA: I have 7 weeks left and no intention of settling on a name until we meet Baby Boy and see what suits him.  We've got a list of 4 or 5 possible first names so far, and we're still adding to it and discussing them, and another list of possible middle names, which we'll pick depending on what works well with the first name we decide on.  No rush, is all I'm saying.

  • I like Phoenix between the two of them.

Also, 8 weeks to go and we haven't narrowed it down yet. We have several 'sort of' names, but no definites.

  • I like Phoenix John lawrence. I also like uncommon names. Marley reminds me of the dog. Sorry.
  • Have you looked at websites like nameberry or the social security lists of names? As pp's said, I only know female Marleys.

  • When we first found out we both liked Finley John Lawerence Milbourne(the last name) but since then heard how common it is in the area.

My partner has 5 other children and I find there names pretty 'simple' without sounding harsh towards them hense why we'd like something unusual/uncommon

So far my partner has 2boys Arron. Nick. And 3 girls Lucy. Aimie & Freya to which Freya being the unusual name out the 5.

I was keen on names like Tyler & Alfie but since I've liked them I have 2 nephews which hae these names.

I know we still have time but I'd like to leave the hospital saying this is...And him actually having a name instead of saying here's the baby
  • We're in the no name club, too.  We've discussed names for about 10 min total so far and have a few in mind, but are no where close to anything definite.  We settled on our first son's name about an hour after he was born (we discussed his name for about 5 min during the pregnancy and were in agreement on the likely first name, but not is middle name).  My point- don't stress about it and seeing him might help you settle on the perfect name that fits him.  Technically, you have a year to file with the SS admin.  Our plan is to have a name before we leave the hospital so the birth certificate paperwork can be filed for us.

  • I've got less than 7 weeks and we don't have the slightest idea what this little guy's name is, so no worries!  You've got time.

(j/k, I'm actually completely freaked out by this)

  • I like Phoenix, it has a nice meaning and Marley makes me think in Bob Marley. Anyway, is your child, your choice. Hope you and your husband get to an agreement.

I love the name Milo, but my SO hates it so I don't get to use it. Out of your choices, I have only known female Marleys. Phoenix is good, though growing in popularity so not necessarily unique anymore. But neither us Milo :). My advice is to make sure you choose a name that will grow with him into an adult. So many people choose "Cutesie" names that work with little boys, but that wouldn't necessarily scream masculinity in the work place. Just my opinion.
  • Freya is such a cute name! I know that doesn't add anything, just had to say it.
  • It's hard to choose a name... we didn't nail down a name our son until after delivery!

What about Griffin? I've always liked that name and it seems a similar style to the ones on your list. Griffin John Lawrence.

Definitely check out the social security baby names site for ideas. Baby Name Wizard is another good one. Good luck!

  • Nameberry is a good website for names. I think John Lawrence is also a good name to go with instead of Phoenix or Marley.

  • I like Phoenix. I met a little boy with that name once and he was a cool looking kid.
