Some women find that listening to music while they're in labor helps them establish their rhythm and relax. I'm thinking of throwing a playlist together and starting to listen to it at night before bed while I practice relaxation techniques, so that I begin to associate the music with feeling comfortable and relaxed, and will be able to use it as a helpful tool for labor.
STMs: did any of you use music as a tool during your previous labor(s)? Did you find it effective or prefer silence or something else?
All the moms: If you're planning on having music in your "bag of tricks" for labor, have you started thinking about what music you'll listen to?
If you've made a labor playlist, what's on it?!
Re: Labor Playlist?
With my first pregnancy, I thought I wanted to do a playlist, but when it came down to it...it was sort of like, ok, no song is really appropriate for labor and I don't want it ruined for me. I love Bob Marley, but I don't want to listen to 3 Little Birds when I'm in extreme pain pushing a baby out of my vag.
I've thought about classical music? Or piano? Or even some Irish instrumental music, but I don't know if that would be too lively for me to concentrate and relax... I think I need some music for distraction, some for relaxation, and some for encouragement: for the various stages of labor.
Ooh, good threat subject... I think I might put a playlist together to try, but I tend to be the type that likes absolute quiet when I'm concentrating so I'm not sure I'll like it.
This made me smile because at our birth class this week, our (older but very sweet) instructor kept telling us that each room has its own boombox, and DH giggled every time she said it
