Pregnant after a Loss

Doubling Time?

Anyone know what a good doubling time really predicts? And should this just be checked in a 48 hour window or are betas tracked for awhile (i.e. multiple doubling times)?

Thanks!

Re: Doubling Time?

  • I think how often/much you get checked is dependent on your OB/RE. The information my RE gave me was that he wanted to see my beta's rise more then 66% each forty eight hours to confirm a viable pregnancy and he does three total beta draws, every forty eight hours, the first one when I get my first positive pregnancy test.

  • Clinics seem to vary widely in how often they check betas, so I'm not even sure if there's a normal protocol. I've seen two a week apart, three two days apart, just one, or checking until they're over 1,000. I'm pretty sure what I've read is that 80-85% of normal pregnancies double within 48-72 hours, which still leaves a lot of initially slow growers in the "normal pregnancy" category. HTH.

  • Agree with pp's the general rule is it should double in 48-72 hours...however it could be higher for some especially if you have multiples or start off slightly lower for some too if you implant late etc

  • Good point @KateLM even after just 10k beta the doubling time will start to slow.
