What do you think of birth photography?

in 3rd Trimester
So I have my own photography business and I'm thinking of starting birth photography. ?I was wondering how many people would actually be interested in this.

I was just wondering what the general thought was. ?It is expensive... it will be priced around $1000-1500.

    And to answer my own question, I think it's awesome and I wish I had the money to capture the day I met my son.

    Some G/PG rated birth photography is beautiful....others, not so beautiful. ?Just depends!

    I wouldn't want professional pics of my birth.  I would rather spend the money on some nice newborn pics.

    umm do you mean taking pics WHILE the birth is happening?  if so A) No i would never do it B) that is freaking expensive to snap shots of a huffing puffing sweaty cursing woman pushing out a baby

    Wow that seems really expensive, but i guess you'd have to be on call etc so the cost makes sense.  DH is an amatuer photographer so i'm hoping he catches some nice shots of baby after birth.  I just told him i want him to see baby for first time through his own eyes rather than the lense!

    I would be interested, but not for that price. My dad was also a professional photographer and I'm interested in how you came up with that cost. Is it being on call on the spur of the moment?

    It is cool I guess, but with all the expenses of a newborn baby there's no way I could afford $1000 or $1500 in photographs.  Especially since I wouldn't want the photographer hanging around for a long time afterwards (I'm sure I'll be tired), so I imagine I would be paying that much for about 15 minutes of photos.  And I am not sure I'd be in much of a mood to have a flash going off while I'm laboring before the baby arrives.  DH will have our camera and he can take some photos.  That'll be enough for me.  They don't need to be super professional quality.  But that is just my personal opinion.  Others may feel differently.

    I wouldn't do it b/c I don't think you could possibly photoshop me enough to make me look good during labor and delivery

    It would be a nice thought, but I wouldn't pay for something like that.  First, I know I looked like sh!t during and after my labor and I really don't want to remember that part.  Second, that's a lot of money, and as many times as I have had my DD's pics done, I don't think we have spent $1000 on her pics.  I think I would rather just get pics done after the baby is born (and when I have make up on and my hair done all pretty).

    There are some moments that would be priceless to capture -- like the look on your face or DH's face that first moment you see your child.

    lol, yes. ?It would be once you arrive at the hospital, all throughout the laboring process and also two hours after birth.

    The price is figured on time and also spur of the moment, it also includes the time spend editing photos and also time spent making a video set to music with the photos.

    I'm still unsure if I want to do this considering I labored for three days and I'm wondering what happens if this happens to a client of my own.

    Agreed. I've seen pro packages for maternity shots and a newborn shoot that cost that much and come with a selection of prints.

    My first thought was "ick." I don't know how I'd feel about putting something up like that in my house and I *know* I'd be weird walking into a friends house and seeing something like that in the hallway.

    If it's going to be that pricey, I want something I can put up. Just my opinion!
