This is my 4th baby, and I have never read a parenting book.
    So sorry can't help you.

Thank you! Was starting to feel like Seth Rogen in Knocked Up. I just can't seem to get into the baby books.

  • I also love The Happiest Baby on the Block!
That's the only book I've owned. Trying to think of others. I have a number of resources, journal articles and other sites that focus on breastfeeding and AP style parenting. But that's the only book I can think of for the infant/young toddler stage.

  • I loved Bringing Up Bebe. It was funny and the advice she gives is simple. I'm a FTM also, so we'll see if it's true!

  • Happiest Baby on the Block, for sure. I got the follow on, Happiest Toddler on the Block, but it wasn't quite as good, IMO.

I'm still not sure how much I really buy into a special "baby language", but Dunstan Baby Language stuff came out around the time DD1 was born, and I do know that I could distinguish between the different cries a lot better because of Dunstan's ideas (especially "neh" for hungry). You can find a lot of stuff online about it, but here's the website: https://www.dunstanbaby.com/

Obviously, it's a bit early for this one but I can't recommend it highly enough

Reviving Ophelia is worth reading and thinking about. I'll definitely want to re-read as well.

  • Has anybody read Eat, Sleep, Poop?

It's one of the books sitting in my amazon cart, but I haven't pulled the trigger.

  • I was about to start this exact thread last night and got distracted (typical), thanks for the suggestions!
  • I highly recommend "Brain Rules for Baby" by John Medina. It talks about your baby's brain development and how that ties into their behavior and skills. It was really wonderful for me as a FTM to get insight into the "why" behind what I was seeing.

I also really like "How Toddlers Thrive" by Tovah P. Klein. Obviously this one is appropriate for when your LO is older, but I ran into some "toddler" behaviors with my older son starting at about a year. It was very helpful in discussing discipline ideas and scenarios that felt more like "teaching appropriate behavior" instead of "punishing the kid".
