Did you practice work routine before returning?

For those that have returned to work and are breastfeeding...did you start to work on a pumping routine before you went back? Did you start giving your LO more bottles before starting daycare? I am heading back next Friday and I didn't know if I should work on getting DS used to more bottles throughout the day. Thanks!

  • I started a pumping schedule and bottles a week before he went to daycare so it wasn't such a drastic change for both of us. I pumped at 9, 12 and 3 and gave him bottles between 8-5 (his hours at daycare).

  • We only made sure she could take a bottle (which was a struggle). Then I took her into DC for a half day while I sat by the pool and wrote thank you notes and balled my eyes out. DH dropped her off on her first full day. I had already gotten most of my boo-hoos out the day before so I did ok. I still have moments when I cry on my way into work.
She is adjusting ok and takes her bottles. We drop her at DC around 8/8:30 and she has been taking a 3 hr nap there!
At work I pump 3 times (9:30, 12:30, 3:30) then I nurse at home. Pumping and working is hard.......
  • I am planning a three week transition, off the daytime nursing/to bottles & pumping. One feeding per week change, as to make it gradual for DS and prevent clogged ducts for me. I will also do the AM wake up routine everyday for about a week to prepare!

  • I start Monday but I'm diving right in. I have a freezer stash and plan on using a few bags for the first day. We'll see how pumping goes. I don't know how I'll find the time. Ugh.

  • @purtz‌ if I were you I'd 'sleep in' as much as you can that last week!
@Jcrewgirl85‌ I hope you have good luck pumping at work. It's so time consuming. Get to work. Pump. Go to a meeting. Pump. Another meeting. Pump. Leave work by 5pm to get LO. I feel like I don't get any actual work done. It would be so much better if I had my own office but I share so have to leave the office to pump. **sigh**
  • Had two trial runs with daycare this week, but still worried that come Monday I'll be super late to work!

  • @KellyQ116‌ - I hope I can find the time. Luckily, I have an office and it locks, but court usually goes from 9-1 so it's going to be hard to get away. Pumping takes me forever. Ugh. I have no clue how much I need to pump either.

  • I did not practice, but we are still struggling with bottle feeding a month later, so maybe I should have (I think if I worked a 5 day work week we would have adjusted by now, but I don't, so it's more sporadic). Anyway, here are some things I screwed up, so maybe you can benefit from my mistakes:

Don't forget the caps for the bottles! I had the bottles screwed into the flanges and didn't notice I forgot caps.

Don't forget to bring the bottles when you go to pump! Twice now I've had to pump directly into bags. (though if you don't have to leave to pump, maybe this wont be a problem).

I think what saved me is keeping storage bags in my pump bag just in case. Good luck returning to work, it's so hard!
