Lucas James
Born Aug 12th 11:50am 8lbs 9oz 21in long

Short version:
 -started contractions Sunday around 9pm
-headed to the hospital Monday around 7am
-went med-free until I stalled at 8.5cm so opted for MW to break water
-still no progress so they started pitocin...
-opted for epidural after an hr on pit and 5 hours later delivered our Lucas That's 30+ hours!!!
I still have a hard time with details and remembering exactly what time things occurred.

Loooong version: because it was therapeutic to think back :)
Sunday: Started feeling contractions around 8pm and noticed there was a pattern so I started timing them, they were 10min apart and felt very mild. I mentioned to DH I was crampy but that was it. We headed to bed and I kept on timing them as they were getting a bit stronger and I was too excited to sleep. Middle of the night started bouncing on my yoga ball as I timed them and noticed they started getting closer (4min apart). I text my sister since I knew she'd be up late. Shortly after I got a bloody show and let her know I would call her when we were headed to the hospital. DH was sleeping since he was due to work Monday morning and I didn't want to wake him if it was false labor.

Monday: 4:30am I was feeling stronger but manageable contractions 4 min apart as I walked around the house. I decided to wake up DH soon after getting sick in the kitchen sink from a contraction. We started getting ready, but keeping in mind I wanted to labor at home as much as possible so I took a shower and kept breathing through them. I decided before heading in to eat a little breakfast but ended up getting sick again and that's when we decided to head out. 7:30am we were admitted I was 3.5cm and 80% effaced I was doing great on my yoga ball and managing the contractions and relaxing between them.

Now here is where it gets fuzzy...

My sister arrived followed by my mother. MW and nurses (there were about 3 shifts) mentioned how I had a weird pattern to my contractions although I was progressing in dilated rather well. My contractions were 3-4min apart but the contractions lasted up to 2 minutes. I used the shower a few times and it helped amazingly, but walking was just no help so I avoided it all together. So between the yoga ball and shower I labored and dilated to 8.5cm. The weird pattern continued through all of this but the contractions were getting stronger and my breaks were no longer totally pain free. End of Monday they noticed I wasn't progressing from the 8.5cm and advised to break my water, informing me that contractions would get stronger but it could make things progress and help me get to the wonderful 10 number!

Tuesday: Started with MW discussing how I stalled at 8.5cm even with breaking water and laboring for another 5 hours. At this point even through baby was doing good he was showing signs of distress once in a while.it was that it had been such a long labor and now with water broken that they were starting to worry. So they advised.... Pitocin. Now I was all for it if it would help me progress but I was already barely getting through the contractions since breaking my water and the thought of laying in bed was so ridiculously painfully unbearable that I think this is where I started to loose it. They started the pitocin and within an hour I was begging for the epidural. I was in such excruciating pain on top of exhaustion and not eating or drinking because it all had come back up. So sweet relief came with the epidural, and I relaxed as my body with the pitocin progressed fully in another 5 hours. I had requested to decrease the epidural so when pushing came I could be in more control, I ended up being able to feel very minimal pain, all the pressure and my legs so I was very happy because this had been something I always wanted to "feel"! He was born after pushing for 30 lmin and it was amazing!

Everything I had wanted from a med free birth but with the epidural benefits! Ha About 31 hours from being admitted into hospital to delivery!! So worth it for our little Lucas who I'm so thankful arrived healthy and perfect!

Thanks for reading! Here are some of my favorite pics!! (Check out his resting bitch face lol)
