I have heard that because of the amount of shots that DD will receive that Tylenol is a good idea. Do I give it to her 1/2 hour before her shots? I also plan on taking a bottle and feeding her in the waiting room to get her nice and full. Are those wise ideas and/or do you have any other suggestions so that I can prepare?
Re: 2 month appt. coming up, need advice....
You'll probably want to wait to give the tylenol until after the appointment, since dosage is determined by baby's weight. Your pedi will be able to tell you how much to give.
I agree on making sure she has a full belly for the appointment - nothing like giving shots to a cranky/hungry baby.
We gave her Tylenol about 30 minutes before. Make sure she gets it within an hour of her shots.
C cried. Screamed actually. Broke my heart. It sucks. I would probably feed her afterwards and not before. Afterwards gives you something to distract her wth. Oh and the screaming lasted abou 10 minutes. Then she was out.
But I've also heard of babies that didn't even flinch at shots so you might get lucky!
i didn't give dd any tylenol before shots. we have gone 3x and only needed to dose her once.
and, i fed her right after the shots to calm her down and she just fell asleep.
I suggest you take the Tylenol with you and ask your pedi about it when you get there. DD weighed so much that the pedi had us up the tylenol dose, which I wouldn't have known to do if she hadn't been weighed first!
Also, it's good for her to be full before just so she's plesant for the check-up, but it's also a good idea to have some on hand for after the shots, for a comfort thing (and also because shots make a lot of babies sleepy, so she may not eat again for awhile!
I waited to give Tylenol. She didn't get fussy until that night. Also, she cried really hard for about a minute or two right after. I brought her pacifier and just held/rocked her to distract her and got her to stop crying.
Good luck.
