Trouble TTC

Officially official: MFI

This was the IUI cycle from hell and today at the IUI the post wash was <100,000.  We have an appt tomorrow to move forward with IVF/ICSI.  This was IUI #2 and I wasn't ready to trigger until CD21 so that meant u/s and bw everyday for the last week, on top of acupuncture and working overnight shifts.  I am so freaking tired.

My RE office kept forgetting to put in u/s orders which made me have to wait even longer at appts.  Then today, we go for the IUI and the power was out at the hospital.  They had to use a flashlight for the IUI!  I wonder if someone is trying to tell me this is a sign.  I am feeling very anxious about what's going to happen at the appt tomorrow.  The original SA was within normal limits, although on the very low side of normal.  IUI #1 post wash was 400,000.  I am so tired of going through all of these appts for nothing and I'm on the verge of tears because I'm burning out with my schedule.  I just want this to be over and have a baby.  I'm so glad I have a place to vent where people understand and are going through this with me.

Re: Officially official: MFI

  • Thanks, ladies.  I'm sorry I've been MIA all week.  I've literally been running my ass off at work, going to appts, and sleeping.  Now I'm sitting my butt on the couch and ignoring all housework while I drink beers and watch reality tv.

  • I'm trying to find some humor in this.  Having to use the flashlight for IUI made me laugh.  The RE said, "It could happen today".  My response was, "The world could also end today, but I'm fairly certain neither of those things is going to happen".

  • With monitoring that often, you def need to move to IVF! There is an IVF check-in here, but most of us also post/transition to IF. Come say hi!

  • I'm so sorry. We also had horrible post wash counts for iui #1 & #2. I know you said that your SA was low but normal. Was the morph low? My RE said that you typically lose a lot of sperm in the wash when you have low morph.

Anyway we are also moving to ivf with icsi due to MFI. I wish you the best of luck and hope you feel more hopeful and comfortable after your appointment!

    *****Everyone is welcome******

  • I'm so sorry! I know how you feel, one of our back-to-back IUIs had to be cancelled because DH's post wash was sooo bad. And like you, I work shift work and it can be realllly hard on your body. My IUIs all happened to fall on a night shift so after working overnight I had to go to the clinic and force myself to stay awake! And the flashlight omg! that's horrible.

Take care of yourself, and GL at your IVF app.

  • I feel your pain on working the overnight shifts. The level of tiredness is unexplainable and always makes me feel more emotional. About to start the frequent office visits myself and trying to stay positive that working at night gives me the time to go to appts during the day without missing so much work. Best of luck with your IVF cycle!!

What a story….! I'm sorry that you've had to deal with these kinds of experiences :( I wish you lots of luck with IVF-ICSI!

We're also MFI, and we think IVF-ICSI is in our future, too. We're on our first medicated IUI now--partly to see how I respond to drugs and partly to see what DH's post-wash counts end up being. With his counts and motility and 0% morph, we're scared to see what remains!

  • Thanks everyone for your support.  We had the follow-up today and are submitting the application for IVF-ICSI to insurance.  The RE thinks that ICSI is probably the best option and regular IVF won't work.  Hopefully they approve it without a urology consult so I can do it next cycle (unless I'm miraculously pregnant from this IUI).  DH is going to see a urologist regardless but we don't want that holding us up if he has to wait for an appointment.

  • Oh my, I can't even imagine how stressful it must have been to have so many appointments. That would have me ready to give up, for sure!

Sorry about the low numbers. I guess a silver lining to that is that they are clearly out of IUI range, so you can more easily make a decision?

I'm sorry you're facing this challenge. I hope that the IVF process goes smoothly for you. :)
