As a FTM I am curious if most women bring their husbands or SO to their first appt and U/S? Mine would have to request off from work and I don't know if I need him to go to that trouble. Thoughts?
How far along will you be at your first appointment? I think it's a personal decision. I didn't have my DH come to my first u/s because I was only 4 weeks 6 days and knew I wouldn't see anything but a gestational sac. He's coming to the next one on Monday at 7 weeks 3 days since we will be able to see more and hear a heartbeat.
It depends on what your practice does for first appointments, every office is different. At my ob appt with my last 2 pregnancies it was just an intake with a nurse. My husband didn't go to those, but now that I'm with my re, we have a 6wk scan as a first appt, so he will go to that.
You could always call your office and ask what the appt will consist of.
My husband came to all ultrasound appointments and the last one I had before I delivered just to ask questions. He never went to any of the ones in between. If there is a U/S it would probably be nice for him to be there.
With my first DH didn't come to the first appointment, but he had already seen baby on an ultrasound. We found out late that I was pregnant. I was having severe pain and ended up in the er. They did an ultrasound to rule out ectopic pregnancy. My first appointment with the OB was only about a week later so he didn't come.
Last time he didn't come to the first appointment. He did come with me to the anatomy scan. I think that was the only appointment he came to.
This time he is coming to the first appointment. I will need him there in case something is wrong.
Just had my first today and my husband did not take off work. All they did was a pap, questions and sent me for bloodwork. First u/s is next Friday which he will take off for!
My first will be on the 26th and I hope that my husband can go however he works with his father and so we are guessing that will look too fishy having him get off of work. I hope that we can but he pry won't take off for it.
My DH came to my first appointment. Mainly so he could get an idea of what pregnancy was going to entail and have any of his questions answered. After the first appt. he only came to ultra sounds. How often or if your DH goes to appointments is something you guys should figure out...to each their own!
DH came with me to my first appointment my first pregnancy, but after that he's just gone to the appointments where I had an ultrasound. Our first appointment is really more just pregnancy confirmation.

I had wondered the same thing, when I called to make the appointment I asked the woman on the phone if people bring their husband's to this appointment and she said definitely yes! You could always call to ask.
Mine couldn't come with DD and so I just took him a picture, he was sad he couldn't make it but there were plenty more. Though if for any reason I was worried about getting bad news I definitely would have wanted him there.
DH already stated he was going to every appt. My first appt isn't until 9/2 (I will be 8w2d) and they said I will meet with the NP at 2:00 and the ultrasound will be at 2:30.
My husband only missed one appointment my entire pregnancy. And the one I had was at 28w or so, and I only heard the heartbeat, but I recorded it for him to hear. We made the appointments late in the day so neither of us had to take more than 30m off of work. For this baby, he'll most likely come to all of them again.
My husband comes along when he can. It was a lot more with our first, since now if he's home during an appointment he stays home with the kids so we don't bring a three ring circus with us.
Anyway, first appointment, we are getting a babysitter and he's coming. We have a possibility to see the baby and he doesn't want to miss it
Since you will be 8 1/2 weeks, I'd say definitely have him come! Unfortunately I received very sad news at my first U/S and I was very greatful my husband was there to be supportive and so he could hear everything from the doctor. I'm SURE you will be fine so won't it be wonderful to hear your baby's heartbeat for the first time together? I'm bringing my hubby to my first appointment so we can see our little peanut on the monitor together!
This signature is all for YOU. I'm on mobile and can't see crap.
My husband wanted to go to most u/s appts, especially the first one and the anatomy scan. Towards the middle-end of my last pregnancy I had an u/s every 2 weeks and he went to those only because he had to drive me there (I was on strict bed rest), otherwise he wouldn't have gone to all of those. If it's super hard to take off work, I would hope that he would just be able to make it to the anatomy scan around 20 weeks
Re: First appt- bring SO?
You could always call your office and ask what the appt will consist of.

Agree with @goldie000, have him go if you are far enough along to see something.
Edit: I see you will be 8.5 weeks.
