  We bought this one for DD and we will use it for this baby as well. She spent a lot of time on this play mat and we are happy with it.

  I'm apparently not a very fun mom. My first two kids got a quilt on the floor with some loose baby toys and a ceiling fan to stare at....

  DS' favorite thing in the whole world to stare at was the ceiling fan!
  
  We used the whale attachment for tummy time and the colorful fish on the mat kept him occupied for some time. I wouldn't have bought another one (his got ripped in our move to this house so we tossed it) but we won it!

  We received this one as a gift. My son loved the little music table thing that came with it and still plays with it, but once he started rolling/scooting I had to put the mat part away. He would put his head between the two rails and twist getting his head/neck pinned. It freaked me out so when ever someone asks I tell them not to buy this one.

  Personally I would wait and see what kind of personality they have on this one...
  
  Do they enjoy kicking more?
  Music more?
  Mirror type things more?
  Do they like things that flash more?
  
  
  I think any of the above will work but both my boys had different preference for play

  The mat that we picked and put on our registry turned out to have an unchangeable battery, and we wound up returning it when DD was only about 3 weeks old and the battery died.  We chose the replacement by making sure it had a changeable battery for the light-up/music part of it.  THIS is the one we ended up getting.  No complaints.  My only advice would be to make sure that whichever one you pick has a battery that you can change.

  I was given one like the first few posters. Just the basic mat with a few bars over the top with hangy things. Then I saw this piano thing, and I felt like I wanted that instead. That's absurd to want that when I have the other thing, right? Who cares?

  We have the ocean one and DS seemed to love it.  Also- don't forget to swing through your local resale shop b/c play mats are one of those things that just about everyone has.  You often can find a used one that is in great condition for like 1/2 the price (and everything on a play mat is washable).

  We got the Kick N Play piano as well.  Honestly, B was still playing with that thing as of about a month ago- at 13ish months (not lying down anymore.... but we turned the piano so he could sit there and bang on it).  I love that mat so much...
