Cloth Diapering

Way too much detergent

So, for my regular laundry I use homemade detergent. Equal parts, Borox, washing soda, tide, 1/2part oxi free and clear, and a grated bar of zote soap. For a large load of super dirty laundry I use 1 1/2 tablespoons. Well, as I was starting diaper laundry, (diapers in and full of water) I went to grab the BacOut and act dentally knocked the regular detergent in the washer. I got about half of it out, but there is probably 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup I couldn't get out!!

What do I do?!?

I went a head and started the washing machine, I know I will need wash over and over and over to get the soap out, but should I do a hot water strip after, or maybe rlr? What would you do? I fear I may have ruined 1/2 my stash!

  • Loading the player...
  • If I had done it, I would have just rinsed everything out in the utility sink and tossed it back in the washer.

I'd just keep running rinses until you don't see bubbles.

  • That's it? You don't think the zote (like fels-naphtha) will kill the absorbency?

For one wash, I would just rinse everything really good and then try out one diaper before worrying about trying to fix something that may not be an issue.

I would think just once wouldn't be a big deal.  I think build-up happens over time.  If anything I would do a hot wash w/o detergent just to get it all out and then several rinses.

If afterward you have absorbency issues then you could try a different strip.
  • Thank you all SOOOOOOO much! I completely freaked out. All of my fitted were in that load. I would cry if I ruined my TT and cutesy cloth.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't a bunch of the handwashers use Zote during the handwashing challenge?
