If it is mild, it's not a spinal headache. I had them for three weeks after my last birth, and I can say that if natural childbirth is a 10 on the pain scale then spinal headaches are like an 8. They are debilitating.
Also, they go away completely and almost instantly when you lay down flat. Not "get better with rest" but seriously dissappear immediately like you never had pain. And they come back at full intensity within 15 seconds of sitting back up.
My description of the pain to the doctors that tried to fix my headaches with blood patches (tried twice, didn't work) was that it felt like a thousand tiny steel wires were dripping out of the back of my skull, and someone had twined their fingers in the wires and was pulling as hard as they could. I was on pretty heavy duty drugs at that point, but the description remains accurate.
Thank you @KittyMisha. I'm sitting up in bed right now & so far my headache is still mild. I'll see how it feels in the morning when the nurse helps me up.
@KittyMisha has it right. I would actually say my spinal headache was worse than giving birth. If you can walk around, or even sit up without bursting into tears, it's probably not a spinal headache. But keep an eye on it, because if it gets worse you definitely want to get treatment ASAP!
