July 2014 Moms

Second+ moms please tell me when does the madness end?!?

Ok second time + moms I need the benefit of your experience. When does all the icky uncomfortable pp stuff end? I am seriously annoyed/uncomfortable all the time and it's making me grouchy!!! I guess I'll make a list of the stuff that is plaguing me ( And I assume the majority of us) if you could please help me see the light at the end of this terrible pp tunnel I'd be soooooo grateful!

  1. When does the itchy "downstairs" area (which my Dr. says is due to the healing process) go away? Seriously feels almost like a yeast infection! So uncomfortable!
  2. When does the bleeding stop? I'm 3 weeks pp and wearing pads is so uncomfortable, itchy and just plain annoying!
  3. When does the stabbing pins and needles feeling in my breast go away? I'm breastfeeding and I'm not really getting crazy engorged right now but I still get that stabbing feeling, especially at night.
  4. When does your back stop killing you? My lower back and upper back(in my rib cage area) hurt soooo much.
  5. When do you stop pouring milk out of your boobs ALL THE TIME? I seriously have been finding freaking puddles on surfaces that I lean over in my house?!? I wear breast pads most of the time! Still milk everywhere! Oh and is their a non itchy breast pad? I've tried Nuk, Avent and the one that starts with an L and omg it's like wearing insulation on my nipples!

Thank you so much in advance for your wisdom! I really appreciate it! And I think partially I needed to vent also....

  • I had to stop wearing regular pads because the moisture was causing extreme itching and irritation. At night I would use a Kleenex or tissue for protection to allow the area to breathe a bit more. I also would try and let the area air out after a shower. Good luck, it's miserable. I'm 4.5 week PP and just now getting back to normal down there.

  • Have you tried the target brand pads (up&up)? They're less itchy for me, BUT they don't lay flat like the other pads do. I usually bum around the house in a sports bra and I look like I have lumpy boobs. When we have to go out and I'm forced to wear a real nursing bra, they're fine. No lumpy-ness to be seen.

As far as the itchy vag, I had it too and it SUCKS. I had it more on the outside areas (not near my stitch) of my vag. I carefully put aquaphor on my "pad-rash" areas. It definitely took the edge off.
  • I'm 6 wks pp and still bleeding... This is my first time though, so I don't have answers.

  • I bled for about 5 weeks this time, 7 weeks with my first (but it was very light the last weeks). Itchiness goes away for me when I stop bleeding and wearing pads. Pins and needles feeling sounds like milk let down; if so, it will stick around for a while. Leaky breasts can last a while too--just when you think you can stop wearing breast pads, you'll go without them and then leak all over yourself in public. Fun times.

I second the up and up brand nursing pads. They were the only ones out of the 4-5 I tried that did not itch. But they do make for lumpy boobs. I tried stretching them and smoothing them down and that helped.

Have you tried tucks pads (witch hazel pads) lined up over a pad to prevent and help with the itching? I needed tucks pads for 3 weeks pp. If the area got dry it itched like crazy. After delivery the nurses put a layer of tucks over the absorbent pad and it was amazing. It was my life saver, but do make sure to give yourself some time each day to air out.

I can't really help with the leaking boob thing. I nursed until 4weeks then pretty much dried up within 4-5 days.

Overall, at 6 weeks pp I am feeling pretty normal down there. I still have a hemmoroid (oh joy) and I am too chicken to try you know (I was cleared yesterday), but overall normal!

Eta: my bleeding slowed way down around 4weeks. Then here and there I have had some light spotting. But around 4 weeks I stopped wearing a pad everyday and wore a panty liner when I was spotting.

I'm not BING this time around, so I can't speak much to the boon stuff, but I remember leaking for a long time. Like months.
I'm 3.5w PP, and my bleeding had started to lighten up, and then came back with a vengeance today...but honestly, it could be the start of my period. Joy.
Pads are uncomfortable. I've had the best luck with always infinity, but my bag still itches.
In summation, it's probably going to suck for awhile longer.

  • I don't have Answers for most of your questions, but I'm using machine washable reusable breast pads. They're bamboo based and super soft and absorbent. I like them much more than the disposable ones I tried. I normally hate adding to my laundry with something like this but I'm already doing tons of baby laundry anyway.

  • STM here. I stopped bleeding about 4 weeks PP. With my first I think it took about 6 weeks. The itching went away when my stitches dissolved.

  • I'm 12 days out and couldn't stand the itching a few days ago, so I put some yeast infection cream down there, not so much inside, but more on the outer part and like half inch in and the itching is almost all gone! I think because it was always moist with pads I was beginning to develop a bit of a yeast infection. Anyways, my vajay almost feels back to normal, I think I'm even getting my sex drive back!!
  • Reusable breast pads! Amazon.
Ouchy boobs still here at nearly 10 weeks PP.
Itchy vag stopped.. uh... prior to my 6 week PP visit.
    Stopped bleeding 3.5 weeks PP.
My back still hurts at night, so not sure about that.

  • I'm not a STM but I'll be 10 weeks PP tomorrow and all of what you mentioned is gone by now (except boob stuff). I felt mostly normal around 7 weeks PP.

I'm ebf and I thought the leaking had stopped but I woke up with a soaked shirt this morning so maybe not. Just wait til your feeding LO on one side and the other boob starts spraying all over her! This is when I point boob at DH and laugh :)

As for the pins and needles feeling in your boobs, could that be your letdown? Sometimes I feel it and sometimes I don't. Sometimes a crying baby or even looking at LOs pictures will trigger the feeling of a letdown but I don't actually leak. I don't think that will go away as long as you stick with breastfeeding. However, for me it has gotten more tolerable to where I don't always notice it.

  • For the leaky boobs, when you start to feel the pins & needles (a sign of let down of your milk) try pressing on your breasts - this may stop some of the leaking (sometimes just crossing your arms across your chest will work).

  • I'm 6 weeks pp, and I'm feeling pretty back to normal. My bleeding stopped at about 3.5 weeks pp. I didn't have any tears, so there wasn't much itching for me. With my first, I tore pretty bad, and that stopped hurting at about 4 weeks pp. I'm not breastfeeding, so I have no insight on that, but the end is definitely in sight!

Is this the "bamboobies" brand? Or is it "bamboosie"... Don't remember... Anyway, That's what I use and I love them :) very soft and surprisingly they aren't noticeable when I'm wearing a nursing bra (I'm pretty small chested though, filled up to a C when my milk came in)

  • Third time mom and I have to say you need to find reusable breast pads! I ordered mine off etsy and they are a lifesaver! Order the biggest ones you can find (they often come in multiple sizes) or you will leak out of them...
