How do you deal with the insomnia?

With my previous pg I would wake every night to go to the bathroom around 4am, be wide awake (and starving!) for exactly an hour, then could get a little more rest before going to work. This time if something wakes me up (DD, bathroom, dog, dreams, whatever) I'm up for hours, usually for the rest of the night. None of my normal sleeping habits help, I just can't get back to sleep. I'm on day 4 of a few hours of sleep and falling apart, tonight was less than 2 hours sleeping. I do have an appt tomorrow and am asking my OB for advice. How are you coping with the insomnia?

Re: How do you deal with the insomnia?

  • I use some of the same things as PP. I also use my Hypnobirthing CD. Seems to help most times. I should be doing that now instead of bumping! Lol!
Good luck! Hope u get rst soon!

I usually get up and walk around and find a different place to sleep to see if that helps. I always start in bed, end up in the couch or in the recliner. But I always end up back in bed (just got back in from being on the couch).

If I reeeeeeaaaallly can't get back to sleep, I take a hot shower and sit in the tub with the shower head beating on my back. I'll close my eyes and do some deep breathing. That usually relaxes me enough to sleep for more then 2-3 hours.

I am definitely going to follow this post though to see what others do.
  • Def do similar as above. Change of scenery. Go to the bathroom (until there is nothing left). I also read a little which usually knocks me back out. I also have a white noise app on the iPad which helps a little.

It's the reading that really does it tho. I don't know if it calms my brain or just dries out my eyes enough for me to want to keep them closed but it's just the ticket.

  • I usually take a walk downstairs, drink a glass of milk, & read tb for a bit.. I actually moved our air humidifier to my side of the bed the other night and it has been sooo soothing the past few nights and actually helps me sleep. Oh and I too adjust my pillows 842883 times. Lol :)

Goodluck finding something that works for you!
  • I usually get up and go to either a comfy chair or couch.  Then I read a little bit (I pick something that's not overly interesting) which usually helps me fall back asleep.  Sometimes I make it back to bed, others I just end up where I'm at.  I've also found that a 30 min power nap in the afternoons (when I can get one) sometimes helps with being able to fall asleep better at night.
