I fell...

I slipped on water that my dear son had thrown out of the bathtub when I wasn't looking. Went down hard on my hip and my ankle. It really hurts. I'm sure I twisted/sprained my ankle. I called the dr's office today and they said to come in if I started cramping or anything weird happening but so far nothing other than the pain in my ankle! They said I could take Tylenol for the pain if I needed.

I'm scared for winter! I'm a teacher and have to go outside on recess duty once/twice a week and I'm not looking forward to being 7 months pregnant and walking around on ice and snow dealing with little munchkins!

  • How scary! I'm glad you are ok, other than the pain of course. I'm worried about ice this winter too- I guess we will all need to be careful!

  • Get some cleets (sp?). They make some that slip over your tennis shoes or boots. They get me through the rough Minnesota winters.
  • Glad you are ok! That's so scary.

I think they call them Yak-Trackers! They work good too. I live in Northern Michigan and have used them.

  • Get cleats. They are a lifesaver.
  • That's so scary. I'm glad LO is unaffected but sorry you were injured. I'm a southerner so I'm clueless about the dangers of winter up north. GL this winter and stay safe.

  • Ouch, sorry! Definitely get Yak-tracks. We wear them here (Alaska) all winter when there are days where you are practically walking on a skating rink.
  • Ouch. I teach middle school and have outside duty in afternoons. If ice becomes a problem, I can likely trade duties for an inside one with a colleague. But I'm guessing elementary doesn't afford that luxury at recess. Maybe your administrator will have suggestions? I'm sure he/she doesn't want to have a workman's comp case or emergency.

Maybe I'm being silly but why isn't ice cleared off on the playground for the kiddos? I used to teach and don't remember exactly, but I feel like play areas were cleared off or outdoor recess was cancelled if the playground wasn't cleared and/or too cold. We live in Iowa and have a crap-ton of snow/bitter cold days...most are unnecessary (I blame over protective parenting, but that's a whole other topic). Maybe this different where bitter cold and nasty winter weather are the norm and you all aren't afraid of a little snow and ice! That being said my DH is already scared that I'll fall this winter. He claims I fall easily when it's 60 and sunny!!

PS...wear snow boots and/or yack tracks this winter!!
